Worker Killed in Forklift Accident at Port of Los Angeles

A worker died on Monday after becoming trapped under a forklift at the Port of Los Angeles, according to local officials.The Los Angeles Fire Department said it received report of the incident around 10:40 a.m. at Berth 270.Emergency responders pronounced the trapped person dead on scene. The cause of incident is unknown at this time.The deceased individual has been identified as a man in his 30s, according to local media reports.Authorities from multiple agencies are investigating.

Cargo Volume Slide Continues at Port of Los Angeles

Cargo volumes were down in November at the Port of Los Angeles, marking another month of declines at what was once the United States' busiest seaport. The port said in its cargo update briefing this week that it handled 639,344 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in November, a 21% decrease from the same month last year. Overall, the port has handled 7% less cargo in the first 11 months of 2022 compared to last year’s all-time record.November 2022 loaded imports reached 307,080 TEUs, down 24% compared to the previous year.

CMA CGM to Buy New York, New Jersey Terminals from Canada's GCT

Ports of Singapore and LA, Long Beach to Establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach and C40 Cities have begun discussions to establish a green and digital shipping corridor between Singapore and the San Pedro Bay port complex. Container xChange's latest annual benchmark study of demurrage and detention charges recently showed that the ports in the U.S have the highest demurrage and detention (D&D) charges among the top 60 ports worldwide. Demurrage and detention tariffs have two main purposes: (1) compensating the shipping line for the use of its container and (2) encouraging the merchant to return the container as soon as possible for the shipping line to re-use it and have a fast turnaround. Demurrage is the charge that one pays for the use of the container within the terminal beyond the free time period.
