Horizon LInes Receive Devlin Safety Awards

Horizon Lines' vessels receive 2011 Jones F. Horizon Lines, Inc., one of the nation's leading domestic ocean shipping companies, has received recognition from the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) for its safety record, as well as for the rescue earlier this year of three stranded sailors by the Horizon Reliance. Safety at Sea Focus of National Maritime Day Seminar

NAMEPA’s May 21st Event features Shipboard Safety, Piracy and  Seafarer Issues. Just months after the Costa Concordia accident, and amid daily reports of piracy and needless accidents at sea, the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be offering a seminar “Environmental Intelligence in Maritime:  Safety at Sea, featuring shipboard safety, piracy, and an update on issues for seafarers. The seminar will take place on May 21st at the National Press Club in Washington DC commencing at 3:00pm.

Fifty-Nine Foss Vessels Honored for Environmental Excellence

For 18 years, the Drew Foss, a tugboat operated by the Foss Maritime Company, has been free of environmental mishap. So have the Arthur Foss, the Justine Foss and a dozen other Foss vessels. In fact, 59 vessels owned by the Seattle-based Foss are being recognized by a major maritime organization for their standout environmental safety records. Altogether, the Foss vessels feted by CSA have gone a combined 551 years without an environmental incident. "When we talk with our customers, their first concern is safety and the environment," said Gary Faber, the company's president and COO.

Foss Vessels Environmental Excellence

For 17 years, the Arthur Foss, a tugboat operated by the Foss Maritime Company, has been free of environmental mishap. So have the Drew Foss and a dozen other Foss vessels. Sixty-seven vessels owned by Foss and three subsidiaries are being recognized by a major maritime organization for their standout environmental safety records. The Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) is honoring the Foss vessels along with vessels from three Foss subsidiaries - Gulf Caribe Maritime, America Cargo Transport, and Constellation Maritime.

CSX Lines Picks Ulysses

CSX Lines announced today its decision to deploy the Task Assistant™ Quality and Safety package from Ulysses Systems on all 17 vessels and in land-based offices. A detailed review of all major Safety Management Systems (SMS) available to the maritime industry found that Task Assistant was not only the most effective, but could also provide the most significant cost and time savings. "We chose Task Assistant primarily because of its potential to reduce confusion and help focus our crews on the critical, task-specific instructions contained in our Safety Management System," explains Michael Bohlman, Director Marine Services, CSX Lines.
