The insolvency administrator of the MV Werften Group, Dr Christoph Morgen, today handed over the symbolic key of the Wismar shipyard to Bernard Meyer of Meyer Wismar. The shipyard, which has been owned by TKMS since June 2022, has been leased back by the insolvency administrator and subleased to Meyer Wismar for the completion of the cruise vessel located in the dock hall. Spectrum of the Seas Delivered

Cruise line Royal Caribbean International officially took delivery of the 26th ship in its fleet, 169,000 grt Spectrum of the Seas, in a ceremony Thursday in Bremerhaven, Germany.The first ship in the Quantum-Ultra class, the Meyer Werft built Spectrum of the Seas measures 347.1 meters long and 41.4 meters wide. While the term ‘pioneer’ is oftentimes loosely bandied about, there is no more accurate term to describe Jochen Deerberg, an environmental pioneer of the maritime industry, founder of Oldenburg, Germany-based Deerberg-Systems, who was recently feted by cruise industry luminaries at his farewell dinner late last year. “To start in 1979 one could see that environmental-waste management problems on shore and especially in the maritime industry would be of great importance in the future,” said Deerberg. “Of course, I was 10 years too early with my idea.

Steel Cut for Norwegian’s Next Cruise Ship

Marking the beginning of construction of the second ship in Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Plus class, a steel cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, September 15 at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The new vessel, named Norwegian Bliss, is scheduled to be delivered in spring 2017. Once completed, the ship will weigh 165,600 gross tons, measure 330 meters in length and 41.4 meters in breadth, and feature capacity for up to 4,200 guests, with the capability to reach speeds up to 23 knots, according to the shipbuilder.

Carnival Orders New Cruise Ships to Stuff Approx 7,000

Carnival Corporation has signed a multi-billion dollar contract to build four next-generation cruise ships with the largest guest capacity in the world. The four new ships will be the cruise industry's largest yet—but only in head count, not in size. The new vessels are capable of accommodating 6,600 passengers alongside hundreds of crew members. Carnival Orders Two Ships from Meyer Turku

Carnival Corporation & plc, Meyer Werft and Meyer Turku today announced a multi-billion Euro contract for four 180,000 gross ton large next-generation cruise ships. The ships will feature a revolutionary “green cruising” design and will be the first-ever cruise ships powered at sea by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Two of the ships will be built for AIDA Cruises at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany and two further ships will be built at Meyer Turku, Finland. With these orders, Meyer Turku has secured a long term order book until 2020 – providing a stable and increasing work load that allows the yard and the Finnish maritime cluster to develop themselves.

Royal Caribbean International took delivery of its 23rd ship, Anthem of the Seas. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain officially received the new ship from Meyer Werft Yard’s Managing Partner Bernard Meyer in a signing ceremony held in Bremerhaven, Germany. Carnival to Add Nine Ships to Cruise Fleet

Carnival Corporation & plc today signed two strategic memorandums of agreement that will add a total of nine new cruise ships to the company’s fleet over a four-year period from 2019-2022. Meyer Werft Cuts Steel for Star Cruises Newbuild

The first piece of steel was cut at MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, Germany for the construction of the first ship with the construction number S. 711 for Asian operator Star Cruises. Tan Sri Lim, Chairman of Star Cruises, pushed the button of the plasma torch as the first plate of steel was cut by the plasma torch in the yard’s state of the art facility “laser center”. Delivery of the ship is planned for fall 2016. The sister ship will be delivered in fall 2017. Both new ships for Star Cruises will be abt. 151, 000 gross tons each and have a capacity of approx 4.500 passengers. Each ship is 324 m in length, 39.7 m in breadth and will reach a trail speed of abt. 23 knots. These new ships are designed for the fast growing Asian cruise market.

Norwegian Cruise Line Orders Two New Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line says it has reached an agreement with MEYER WERFT GmbH of Germany to build two new Breakaway-Plus class cruise ships for delivery in the second quarter 2018 and the fourth quarter 2019. Each ship will be 164,600 gross tons and include 4,200 passenger berths. "Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway have proven themselves as industry game-changers and are extremely popular with our guests," said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line's chief executive officer. The contract price for both ships is approximately euro 1.6 billion. The Company has export credit financing in place for each ship, arranged and underwritten by KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH of Germany.

Meyer Werft Keel Laying for 'Norwegian Escape'

Norwegian Cruise Line executives and officials from the German shipbuilder MEYER WERFT took part in the keel-laying ceremony of the new cruise ship 'Norwegian Escape' in a traditional ceremony at the shipyard. During the official ceremony, block number 35/41, one of 86 blocks that will comprise the 164,600 gross ton vessel, was lifted into the covered building dock as the start of the block assembly for the new ship. In the dock, Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and chief executive officer, laid the traditional "lucky coin," before the 400 ton block was placed by the 800 ton crane. “We are pleased to start construction of Norwegian Escape", says Sheehan.

Royal Caribbean International took delivery today of the newest addition to the cruise line’s fleet, Quantum of the Seas, from Meyer Werft Yard, at an official signing ceremony in Bremerhaven, Germany attended by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.’s Chairman and CEO Richard D. Fain and Meyer Werft Yard’s Managing Partner Bernard Meyer. With Captain Srecko “Felix” Ban at the helm, the ship will begin her journey today to Southampton, U.K., where she will welcome her first guests on November 2, for a trans-Atlantic voyage to her home port of Cape Liberty Cruise Port, Bayonne, New Jersey.
