MSC Containership Hit by Houthi Missile Sailing to Djibouti

Container ship MSC Sky II was continuing its voyage to Djibouti on Tuesday after being hit by a missile a day earlier near Yemen's port city of Aden, its operator MSC said.MSC Sky II was hit by a missile about 85 miles southeast of Aden and 170 miles east-southeast of the Bab al-Mandab Strait while it was sailing from Singapore to Djibouti, the Swiss-headquartered MSC said in a statement."The missile caused a small fire that has been extinguished while no crew were injured. $73.77 Million Grant a Boost for Port NOLA & Inland Waterway Shipping

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) will receive $73.77 million from the federal government to assist in building the Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) project, which will provide a gateway for cargo movement on U.S. inland waterways including the Mississippi River.The U.S. Department of Transportation has alerted Congress that it intends to award this funding through its MEGA Grant Program, which will support the first phase of the overall $1.8 billion project’s construction and is in addition to significant funding commitments from private industry partners and Port NOLA.

Diana Shipping Takes Delivery of Ultramax Dry Bulker, Secures Charter

Bulk carrier firm Diana Shipping said Wednesday it had has taken delivery of the 2016-built DSI Aquarius ultramax dry bulk vessel of 60,309 dwt. The ship, which used to be called STH Kure, is one of nine new Ultramax dry bulk vessels that the company had agreed to buy in August 2022. Diana Shipping also said that it had entered into a time charter contract for the vessel with Engelhart CTP Freight (Switzerland) SA, at a gross charter rate of US$14,200 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until minimum January 10, 2024 up to maximum March 25, 2024. The charter is expected to start on February 1, 2023.
