Luxury Sailing Ship to be Powered by Ingeteam Electrical Equipment

The French shipyard Chantiers de Atlantique has selected Ingeteam to provide the electric propulsion for the luxury sailing ship Orient Express Silenseas.The ship has solid sails which make it the largest sailing ship in the world. It is one of two vessels that will emulate the famous Orient Express train, enabling more ecological and sustainable navigation via the latest marine technology.The ships belong to Accor Group under the Orient Express brand, and Ingeteam will supply two motors to drive the main propulsion plus the three transverse thrusters…

Freedom of the Seas Leaves Yard

Aker Yards NB 1352 -- Freedom of theSeas -- left Finland on April 13, 2006 heading for Hamburg, where it will be delivered later in the month, after a short docking. The European tour is over on May 3 when the ship will depart for a transatlantic crossing to New York, where she will be officially named, before being repositioned to Florida where the ship will operate cruises to the Caribbean. Freedom of the Seas is the largest and most innovative cruise vessel in the world, with a length of 339 meters. The ships in the Freedom class build on the Voyager-class ships, but are 15 percent larger than those, and have new features: Along with features such as the surfing simulator "flow rider"and cantilevered whirlpools that have never before been seen on a cruise ship…

World’s Largest Cruise Ship Launched

The first of three ultra-sized cruise vessels for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Freedom of the Seas, was floated out recently at Aker Yards in Finland. "Seeing a new ship floated out for the first time is a momentous occasion", says CEO and Board Chairman of RCCL Richard D. Fain. "Aker Yards challenge is to ensure innovative customer focus", says Yrjö Julin, President of Aker Finnyards and responsible for Cruise & Ferries in Aker Yards. "We are proud to build this cruise ship with spectacular inventive features for RCCL," he said. Freedom of the Seas is like a floating urban community with own energy and drinking water production as well as waste management. There is 16.5 hectares of deck space for in all 5,740 passengers and members of the crew.
