Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. (FGH) finalized contracts totaling $82 million. The contracts call for the construction of a $70 million cargo vessel and the design and construction of 22 shipboard cargo cranes. Halter Marine, Inc., the vessel construction division of FGH, will build a $70 million car carrier for Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines. The 579-ft. Pure Truck Car Carrier will transport more than 4,000 automobiles between destinations on the Pacific coast. Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines is a joint venture between The Pasha Group and Van Ommeren Shipping USA, which will operate the vessel. The ship's Jones Act compliance will enable it to operate between U.S. West Coast ports and Hawaii as well as serve foreign ports.

"AmClyde is very pleased to receive these key orders from our long-standing customer NPCC (National Petroleum Construction Company) of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and our new customer Cabett Subsea Products, Inc. of Houston, Texas," said Dick Juelich, AmClyde President. AmClyde has a contract with NPCC to provide a significant operating increase of the lifting capacity and reach for their 2000-ton model 76 marine crane, originally built in 1973.

Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with SeaAmerica Cruise Lines, Inc., based in Hollywood, Fla. Under the MOA, LSS and SeaAmerica will develop a ship design leading to contract negotiations for the construction of two 42,000-ton, 1,000-passenger cruise ships. The program will include options for two additional ships. Construction of the ships would utilize both of Litton Ship Systems' production facilities, Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Litton Avondale Industries in New Orleans, and would maximize the resources and experience of both shipyards to achieve operating synergies.
