On show for the first time at Seawork, the 13m ROV1304 with SPEED-type fast displacement hull is leading commercial power catamaran manufacturer BW SeaCat’s fourth vessel of a well-proven similar construction, designed for deep water operation for the aquaculture industry, power plants, offshore sector and other contractors. The new workboat requires a powerful genset to drive the deck crane and underwater ROV system to be used for applications such as inspection of mooring and cables and work at fish farms.

Valmet will upgrade the Damatic XDi automation system to a Valmet DNA system onboard the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship owned by Royal Caribbean International. Four structures at the Port of Long Beach’s newest marine terminal recently earned the coveted “gold” status in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, which encourages the use of Earth-friendly features that save energy, conserve water and use recycled materials. Located at Long Beach Container Terminal’s new Pier E facility at Middle Harbor, the four buildings function as administrative offices and meeting space, an information technology center, and maintenance and operations structures. They range in size from 10,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet and were completed last year in preparation for this spring’s opening of the new terminal. The LEED awards are for the first phase of the new terminal.

The first ever newbuild liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuelled German seagoing vessel, which is powered by a complete Wärtsilä LNG propulsion solution, had its maiden voyage on December 11. The ship has been built at the Fr. Fassmer shipyard in Germany. The passenger ferry, owned by Reederei Cassen Eils GmbH, will operate between Cuxhaven and the island of Helgoland. This route takes the vessel close to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Wadden Sea National Park, an ecologically sensitive area in the south-eastern part of the North Sea. Because of the need to minimise exhaust gas emissions in this area, the ferry will operate primarily on LNG using two 9-cylinder Wärtsilä 20DF medium-speed dual-fuel engines. Silver Ships delivered a 48-ft. Endeavor Survey boat to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District. The vessel will be tasked with surveying the waters in both the Gulf of Mexico and rivers of the New Orleans District. The all-welded aluminum vessel is designed and engineered by Naval Architect Lou Codega, PE of Smithfield, VA and features a hull form designed to handle the short choppy seas of the Gulf Coast regions. The vessel is powered by twin Caterpillar C18 diesel engines at 803 hp each coupled to Twin Disc v-drive gears.

U.K.-based refrigeration and air-conditioning specialist Flynn has been appointed as an official supplier for German refrigeration firm Roller, the company announced. As part of the deal, the Birkenhead business will act as a worldwide distributor for Roller’s marine and offshore products typically fitted inside cold rooms on board vessels. Flynn managing director Alex Flynn said the deal with the Gerlingen-based firm, which specializes in the manufacture of fan coil units, air coolers and heat exchangers, further boosts Flynn’s product range.

A fire started aboard the Teekay-owned FPSO Petrojarl Knarr this morning. The fire was the second aboard the FPSO unit, which was built in 2014, during its young life at sea. The blaze occurred just a week after the Petrojarl Knarr produced its first oil from the Knarr field in the North Sea. The fire erupted west of the Norwegian coastal town of Florø. The 100-member crew on board were all safe and Norwegian authorities quickly controlled the fire, according to TradeWinds. The previous fire occurred in October, when the unit was working for the UK's BG Group.

A new passenger ferry being built for Swedish operator Rederi AB Gotland will be fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will feature a Wärtsilä integrated solution. The completion of the two new vessels, M/V Berlin and M/V Copenhagen, at the Danish shipyard FAYARD is progressing according to plan. It is expected that the two new passenger ferries can be put into operation on the Rostock-Gedser route in the second half of 2015. The vessels start to resemble what they are supposed to be, two modern traffic machines with lots of light, air and space. During the last months, the vessels have been on a strict diet to reduce the weight, and the new bridge has recently been installed on the first vessel, M/V Berlin. As opposed to the original design, the bridge has been moved to the top deck, so the navigators get an even better view.

The U.S. Department of Commerce confirmed steep duties on imports of refrigerant gas from China on Wednesday, saying the goods were sold too cheaply in the United States and were produced using Chinese government subsidies. Final duties on the gas known as 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane, used in air conditioning systems, will range from 282.54 percent to 303.42 percent, taking both anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties into account, according to a statement from Commerce. Companies affected include Jiangsu Bluestar Green Technology Co, Shandong Dongyue Chemical Co Ltd, T.T. International Co and Zhejiang Sanmei Chemical Industry Co Ltd . The complaint was lodged by Mexichem Fluor Inc, a subsidiary of Mexico's Mexichem. The duties are subject to a final decision by the U.S.

On June 14, the HelWin bèta platform left on a barge from the Heerema Fabrication Group's (HFG) yard in Zwijndrecht for Schiedam to complete outstanding work. Last week, HelWin bèta reached its final destination in the German North Sea, where the platform will supply more than half a million households with sustainable energy. That requires high-tech systems.
