Rhosonics debuts a pipe integration system for the Slurry Density Meter (SDM) – the Clamp-In, designed to make it easy to remove the sensor without interrupting the process. The Clamp-In allows the installation of existing pipes in the process: plastic pipes, metal pipes or even pipes with internal liners. All necessary mounting materials are supplied with the product, including the drill for making the hole in the pipe. One of the main features of this system is the "hot-tap"…

Finding the Ideal Biodegradable Marine Lubricant

In December 2013, the EPA through its Vessel General Permit (VGP) will introduce the mandatory use of “Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants” or EALs. These products include the lubricating oils that are directly used in applications referred to as “oil to sea interfaces” where the only thing holding the oil from entering the water is a simple seal or gasket. Understanding what this all means to you is important. Bio-degradability rating of 60% or more in 28 days (the minimum criteria to also be classified as “readily biodegradable”).

Are PAGS the Answer?

PAG’s; one and all: DOW’s UCON Trident PAG Hydraulic Lubricant (orange) and American Chemical Technology’s Trident Gear Lubricant (bright green shade yellow).

Ron van Wachem, President of Coast Lubricants and Nanaimo Shipyard Group, reasons that PAGS are the best solution to meet the new VGP requirements. Product Focus

Datamodul´s daughter-company, CONRAC GmbH was awarded by Kelvin Hughes for the delivery of Type Approved TFT Displays in their new and future IBS Programs. Next to the superior performance and quality aspects, one of the main reasons for this decision was, the high level of own development integrated in the concerned TFT monitors. The result can be recognized in the Queen Mary 2 bridge. All TFT displays are delivered in an OEM Chassis-Only version, ready for integration in the special design of the bridge. During the late 1990's Kelvin Hughes realized that the availability of cathode ray tubes (CRTs) for use in bridge navigation displays, such as Radar and ECDIS, was becoming limited.

FRP Pumps Offer Lasting Results

There's hardly a marine application — onboard or ashore — where seawater pumps are not considered critical to a vessel's operation or purpose. The ability to pump seawater aboard most vessels represents only a part of their liquid pumping requirements; in many cases other liquids such as caustics, corrosives, and alkalis need to be transferred, either from ship to shore or vice versa. For these kinds of harsh applications many shipboard pumps are constructed of metals designed to withstand the continuous flow of severely corrosive liquids. Typically, these metals include Monel and K-Monel, titanium, nickel bronze, alloy 20 steel, and 316 stainless steel.
