GAC Handles First Tanker at New LNG Terminal

GAC has handled the first tanker to berth at the newly constructed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal inside Kamarajar Port, Ennore in Chennai, India. Chakraborty Appointed Branch Manager, GAC Bangalore

GAC Shipping (India) Pvt Ltd has appointed Mukesh Chakraborty as the Branch Manager, Logistics Services for its Bangalore office. Mukesh brings 13 years of experience in freight forwarding, customs clearance, transportation and warehousing and distribution to his new role. GAC is tapping into growing logistics business potential in Bangalore, India’s fastest growing major metropolis. The city is also a major hub for Business Process Outsourcing and specialised services like information technology and aeronautics. GAC celebrates 30 years in India

GAC India has celebrated 30 years of operation in the country with an event held at the Trident, Bandra Kurla Complex. GAC Shipping (India) Pvt. Ltd. was the first GAC office to open in the Indian Subcontinent. Operations began in 1985 with the first agency appointment for a vessel calling at Mangalore. From just two staff working from an office in Cochin back then, GAC India has now grown into a company with close to 400 employees nationwide. GAC Takes Care of ‘Maersk Deliverer’ at Ngqura

A massive drilling rig has completed its latest Special Periodic Survey and is now back in active duty off the coast of Angola. GAC South Africa was appointed to take care of the behemoth during its five-week stay at the deep water port of Ngqura. Weighing in at 37,756 GR, measuring 117m x 78m x 37m and with accommodation for up to 180 people, the ‘Maersk Deliverer’ needed plenty of room. It found it at Ngqura, South Africa's newest port, which has an entrance channel depth of 18m, a turning basin of 600m in diameter and 18m Port Chart Datum. Coordination GAC South Africa was appointed by Maersk Drilling to coordinate supplies, provisions, spare parts and accommodation for experts required for the rig’s survey.

2nd WISTA India Forum Receives Strong Support

On 23rd January 2015, the Royal Mumbai Yacht Club saw around a hundred dignified members of the shipping fraternity gather for the second WISTA Annual Forum, an event that lived up to the industry’s expectations. The select crowd included long-term supporters of WISTA India and WISTA members, as well as members who flew down from Delhi, Chennai, Cochin and Bengaluru especially for this conference. The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by key dignitaries – Hon Mr Deepak Shetty, the  DG of Shipping who was the chief guest of the evening, Mr Sanjay Bhaty, from Kandla Port trust, Mr.Umesh Grover, CEO of INSA and Ms Sanjam Sahi Gupta, the President of WISTA India and Board member of WISTA International.

Newest Sub-chapter of WISTA Inaugurated in Kochi

The newst sub–chapter of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association – was inaugurated in Kochi on the 29th of August 2014, making it the fifth chapter in the country. The sub-chapter was launched as a part of the 2nd Hotel, and was attended by eminent personalities from the Indian maritime industry. Mr Umesh Grover, CEO of Indian National Ship owner’s Association (INSA), and Mr Prakash Iyer, President of Cochin Steamer Agents Association (CSAA) inaugurated the launch as esteemed representatives of the industry and supporters of WISTA. Kurdistan defies Baghdad in Crude Oil Sale

Move likely to infuriate Iraqi government in Baghdad; first 1 million barrel cargo being loaded at Ceyhan, Turkey. Tanker scheduled to sail later on Thursday, buyer not identified. Iraqi Kurdistan started loading oil from its new pipeline for shipment from a Turkish port on Thursday, defying the Baghdad government, which claims sole authority over Iraqi crude and declares any independently sold oil as 'smuggled'. The cargo of 1 million barrels of crude oil was being loaded on a tanker in the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz told Reuters on Thursday. "Loading will be completed today," Yildiz said, declining to name the buyer.

GAC Bunker Fuels Strengthens HQ Team

GAC Bunker Fuels Limited has appointed two new UAE-based bunker traders as part of its regional expansion plan. Georgia Paravalou will trade and broker marine fuels in her new role. An economics and management graduate, she joins GAC Bunker Fuels from AP&A. Ltd, where she worked as a shipbroker, coordinated the marketing department and developed business in the UK and South China. Anthony Inglis is charged with expanding GAC's bunker business in the Middle East and developing bunkering operations in Sub-Saharan Africa. GAC Shipping UK has completed the successful installation of the Conwy platform 40 miles off the port of Liverpool, only two months after a tug carrying the rig's jacket and topside – each weighing in at over 700 MT – set off from Rotterdam. GAC's Liverpool office was appointed by Dutch heavy civil engineering company HSM Offshore BV to provide an integrated package of support services to construct and hook-up the platform. The journey from the Netherlands took two and a half weeks due to bad weather resulting in ships having to seek shelter in Plymouth and Falmouth.
