GE Gas Turbines Earn LR Design Appraisal to Marine NVR

GE Marine’s LM6000 aeroderivative marine gas turbine PC and PG models have received Lloyd’s Register’s Design Appraisal Document to the Marine Naval Vessel Rules (NVR). According to Ge, the fuel-efficient LM6000 simple-cycle gas turbine delivers over 40% thermal efficiency. GE Marine’s LM2500 aeroderivative marine gas turbine now powers the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) recently commissioned HMAS Canberra Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) ship, the first of two LHDs to be introduced into the RAN fleet. GE Gas Turbine to Power Italian Frigate

GE Marine has received an order to supply one LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine to Avio Aero of Turin, Italy, a GE Aviation business. The gas turbine will power the Italian Navy’s eighth FREMM frigate. Through Avio Aero, at least 17 LM2500+G4 gas turbines are expected to provide propulsion for the Italian-French-Moroccan FREMM program, which includes eight ships each for the Italian and French navies and one ship for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Other international navies are considering the FREMM frigate for use in their fleets.

GE to Supply Avio Aero with Gas Turbine for French Frigate

GE Marine has received an order to supply one LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine to Avio Aero of Turin, Italy, a GE Marine System Supplier. The gas turbine will power the French Navy’s ninth FREMM frigate. Through Avio Aero, at least 18 LM2500+G4 gas turbines will provide propulsion for the Italian-French FREMM program, which includes six ships for the Italian Navy, 11 ships for the French Navy, and one ship for the Royal Moroccan Navy. Other international navies are considering the FREMM frigate for use in their fleets.

GE Delivers Gas Turbine to Avio for French Navy Vessel

GE Marine has delivered one LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine to Avio S.p.A. of Turin, Italy, a GE Marine System Supplier. The gas turbine will power the French Navy’s eighth FREMM frigate Lorraine. The Italian-French FREMM program marks the first application in the marine sector of GE’s LM2500+G4 gas turbine, which has 17% more power than its LM2500+ predecessor. Through Avio, 18 LM2500+G4 gas turbines will provide propulsion for the current FREMM program, which includes six ships for the Italian Navy, 11 ships for the French Navy, and one ship for the Royal Moroccan Navy.

Acceptance Test on First LM2500 Gas Turbine for RAN

GE Marine reports that it has successfully completed acceptance testing on the first LM2500 aeroderivative marine gas turbine for the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD). GE will supply ASC, Adelaide, Australia -- the shipbuilder in the AWD Alliance -- with six LM2500 gas turbines to power three RAN advanced AWDs. Each Hobart class AWD will feature two LM2500s configured into a COmbined Diesel And Gas turbine arrangement with two diesel engines. The vessels will be built at ASC’s Osborne shipyard.

GE Marine reports that the first LM2500+G4 aeroderivative marine gas turbine module has been delivered by Avio to DCNS’ shipyard in . The engine will be the basis for the COmbined Diesel eLectric And Gas turbine (CODLAG) propulsion system that will power the French Navy’s first European Multi-Mission Frigates (FREMM) ship. Avio, , is a GE Marine Systems Supplier, as well as the prime contractor for the FREMM gas turbine system. The French and Italian Navies are jointly developing the FREMM program, and combined, the navies are slated to build a total of 27 next-generation frigates.

Corsaire 13000 Embodies Integrated, Advanced Propulsion System

The new 440-ft. (134-m) monohull high-speed ferry Corsaire 13000 will soon undergo speed trials at the French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval, and the successful testing and subsequent operation of the advanced vessel will prove the value of the complete propulsion system supplied by MTU. The ship is planned to operate for the French SNCM (Societe Nationale Maritime Corse-Mediterranee) on the 189-n m. crossing from Marseille and the island Corsica at 42 knots. GE Targets LCS Business

GE – Marine has been issued updated certification from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for its LM2500 aeroderivative marine gas turbine. GE Provides Gas Turbines in Korea

GE Transportation is a long-standing equipment supplier to navies in the Asia/Pacific region, such as the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, People’s Republic of China, India and Indonesia. In fact, 29 navies throughout the world have selected GE’s proven LM aeroderivative gas turbines. In the Asia/Pacific region alone, nine navies use 200 LM gas turbines, primarily for naval marine applications. Currently there are more than 1,200 GE LM2500 gas turbines in marine service worldwide. The engine is rated at 33,600 shp with a thermal efficiency of 37% at ISO conditions. The LM2500 has an outstanding 99.6% availability rate: out of every 10,000 hours of service, engines have required an average of only 40 hours of corrective maintenance.
