Cummins Debuts Mobile Tier 4 Generators

U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final certified mobile generator sets with 150 kW to 275 kW power outputs are now available from Cummins Power Generation for the rental market. Cummins said it conducted extensive field research to develop a reliable, easy to operate and versatile product to meet the latest emissions regulations. The mobile generators have been thoroughly validated and are now available to rental operators and customers.

The new units are based on the Cummins QSB7 and QSL9 engine platforms that have undergone extensive refinements to meet the stringent EPA Tier 4 Final regulations. Cummins was able to meet the new Tier 4 Final regulations through a combination of in-cylinder engine improvements, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust aftertreatment and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC). Due to the success of the in-cylinder combustion improvements, these engines do not require the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet the new air quality standards. The simpler SCR-only solution helps reduce maintenance overhead and service costs.

“These new products are the result of extensive design research, customer interviews and real-world field testing to make sure we delivered Tier 4 Final certified products that lived up to Cummins Power Generation’s reputation for quality, performance and reliability,” said Antonio Leitao, vice president of Power Products at Cummins Power Generation. “As a result, these mobile rental generators offer the simplest and most reliable solution for providing rated power while meeting Tier 4 Final regulations.”
In addition, these mobile rental generators are approximately 4 to 5 percent more fuel efficient than previous Tier 3 models and deliver higher availability and longer running times between service intervals with no increase in overall package size. The Tier 4 Final regulations limit mobile generator set emissions to 0.4 grams per kWh of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and 0.02 grams per kWh of particulate matter (PM or soot).  These levels represent a 90 percent reduction of the two pollutants from the previous Tier 3, which was introduced in 2005.

The new Cummins Power Generation Tier 4 Final certified units include the C150D2RE generator set, standby rated at 150 kW, the C200D2RE generator set, standby rated at 200 kW and the C275D2RE generator set, standby rated at 275 kW.  They feature switchable 60/50Hz dual frequency operation with multiple voltage configurations of 208V, 240V and 480V in three-phase, and 240V in single-phase. The units are equipped with the new PowerCommand 3.3 controller (PCC) with both paralleling and advanced master-less load demand capabilities. With master-less load demand, the controller can manage power from paralleled generators to match varying load patterns, offering additional flexibility and fuel savings for end users.
