Magellan announced the addition of topographic maps and satellite imagery for its Magellan eXplorist GC geocaching GPS receiver to enhance the user’s geocaching experience and extend the functionality of the GPS device.

For the first time, users can customize their Magellan eXplorist GC GPS device with National Geographic TOPO! maps or DigitalGlobe satellite imagery by downloading content available at http://www.magellangps.com/Outdoor-Maps.

National Geographic’s TOPO! includes authentic, full-color USGS topographic maps, scanned at high resolution and seamlessly tiled together. DigitalGlobe features high-resolution satellite imagery for a realistic viewing experience of any environment.

“The popularity of our eXplorist GC GPS device is rapidly increasing as more families and individuals of all ages are experiencing the exciting sport of geocaching,” said Warren Hewerdine, Sr. Director of Marketing for Magellan.
“With the addition of maps to the eXplorist GC GPS device, users have best-in-class detail and image quality of the surrounding terrain while they search for geocaches.”

In addition, Magellan has enhanced the eXplorist GC GPS device main screen with a new, easy-to-use menu of features to give users an intuitive presentation of options for navigating through geocaches, waypoints and maps, or its dashboard and other tools. New and current owners of the Magellan eXplorist GC geocaching GPS device can download the new software update with expanded functions at http://support.magellangps.com/support.

The Magellan eXplorist GC GPS device provides a user-friendly experience that helps a novice geocacher to discover the world of high-tech treasure hunting, and sophisticated features to give an experienced seeker an advantage in the field. Magellan eXplorist GC users can customize their geocaching experience with caches that meet specific criteria or search through more than two million caches worldwide at www.geocaching.com, the world’s largest geocaching listing website and community.
