Carnival Hit by Ransomware Attack

Cruise operator Carnival Corp said on Monday it launched an investigation into a ransomware attack on one of its brand’s information technology systems.Carnival, which operates AIDA, Carnival and Princess cruises among others, in a regulatory filing said the attack included unauthorized access to personal data of guests and employees.The company did not identify the brand that was affected and declined to provide more details, as the investigation process was at an early stage.The attack adds to the woes of the company that has been already struggling with suspension of its cruises for months

Yang Ming Back to Profitability in 2017

Taiwanese ocean shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation said that its  consolidated revenues of 2017 totaled NTD 131.08 billion (USD 4.4 billion), up 13.59% compared with NTD 115.4 billion (USD 3.88 billion) in revenue from previous year. The company’s net profit, after tax, was NTD 0.32 billion (USD 10.78 million), EPS NTD 0.17. Volumes in 2017 also increased to 4,722 thousand TEUs, up 9 % year over year. Moving into the black, Yang Ming’s annual revenue and profit for 2017 saw significant improvement. Coupled with a recovering shipping market, the effort and dedication from team members worldwide helped Yang Ming’s move in the right direction and take the first step to success.

The board of directors of General Dynamics today declared a regular quarterly dividend of 69 cents per share on the company's common stock, payable May 8, 2015, to shareholders of record on April 10. The dividend represents an 11.3 percent increase from the previous quarterly dividend of 62 cents per share. This is the 18th consecutive annual dividend increase authorized by the General Dynamics board. Pep Boys Selects NRS for Transload Operation in Savannah

National Retail Systems, Inc. (NRS), a provider of logistics services to U.S. retailers, pharmaceutical companies and consumer goods manufacturers, announced it has been selected by Pep Boys, an automotive aftermarket service and retail chain, to provide an import container transload solution at the Port of Savannah. NRS will dray Pep Boys container imports from the Port of Savannah to the company’s crossdock facility in Pooler four miles from the port. NRS’s facility is specifically designed for high-speed, high-volume transload, which reduces logistics costs by transferring freight from ocean-going containers to larger and safer over-the-road trailers. The 176-door crossdock and special project warehouse stretches almost a quarter of a mile long on 52 acres.

Huntington Ingalls Industries subsidiary AMSEC LLC wins IT support services contract to support Department of the Navy. "This is truly a big win for AMSEC," said Michael Bernardi, program manager within the AMSEC's logistics, engineering, technology and training solutions group. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract contains a one-year base period with two one-year option periods which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to approximately $19.6 million.

Geokinetics Expenditure & Revolving Credit

Geokinetics Inc. (NYSE Alternext: GOK) announced that its Board of Directors has approved a capital expenditure budget for 2009 of $37.3m, which is a reduction of over 50% from capital expenditures in 2008. The company expects investments in 2009 to be targeted toward maintenance and selective additions of vessels and other equipment to improve the efficiency of the company's shallow water operations, support equipment for long-term projects in South America and West Africa and the continued implementation of new information technology systems. DHS Budget Request Up 6.8%

President Bush’s fiscal year 2009 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) represents $50.5 billion in funding, which is an increase of 6.8 percent over the 2008 fiscal year level – excluding funds provided in emergency supplemental funding. The request targets five areas, detailed in the following release of information from the DHS. The Department of Homeland Security’s main priority is to prevent terrorist attacks against the nation and to protect our nation from dangerous people. DHS will continue to prevent the entry of terrorists while facilitating the legitimate flow of people by strengthening border security efforts and continuing to gain effective control of America’s borders.

Anteon Awarded $20M Blanket Purchase Agreement

Anteon International Corporation has been awarded a five-year Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA), with an estimated value of $20 million to support the U.S. Coast Guard Integrated Deepwater System Program. Under this tasking, Anteon will provide systems engineering, life-cycle management and program acquisition support services. These services will aid the Coast Guard during the development and fielding of three classes of new cutters and their associated boats, a new fixed-wing manned aircraft fleet, a combination of new and upgraded helicopters, and unmanned air vehicles. The Deepwater Program provides a complete revitalization of all the deepwater assets within the Coast Guard's inventory.

General Dynamics Acquires Anteon

Anteon International Corporation, an information technology, systems integration and engineering services company, has entered into a definitive agreement for Anteon to be acquired by General Dynamics for $55.50 in cash for each outstanding Anteon share. The total value of the transaction, including General Dynamic's assumption of Anteon's debt, is expected to be approximately $2.2 billion at closing. Anteon expects the transaction to close by the end of the second quarter in 2006. The transaction has been approved by the boards of directors of each company and is subject to approval by Anteon shareholders, customary regulatory reviews and other closing conditions contained in the transaction agreement.

Senators Vote to Increase Security Funding

Senate Republicans and Democrats together boosted funding for border and port security in the fiscal 2007 Homeland Security appropriations bill by almost $1b, but were bitterly divided over how to restructure the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Senators agreed to two amendments by Senate Appropriations ranking member Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., that would provide $350m extra for border security and $648m more for port and cargo security. But several senators clashed on the floor over restructuring FEMA. In the end, an amendment by Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairwoman Susan Collins, R-Maine, and ranking member Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., to transform FEMA but keep it within the department was approved on an 87-11 vote. T&I Committee Urges Coast Guard to Examine Future of Deepwater Contract

James L. Oberstar (Minn.), Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (Md.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, today called on the U.S. Coast Guard to restructure the Deepwater Program, which is critical to the mission readiness of the Coast Guard. Under the Deepwater Program, the Coast Guard is procuring 91 cutters, more than 100 small surface craft, and 244 new or converted aircraft, including helicopters and fixed-wing airplanes. "Congress has seen time and time again that the Executive Branch is trying to contract out program management duties that should be carried out by Federal employees.
