SMM 2024 Exhibition Halls Already Nearly Fully Booked

The SMM 2024 trade show will run from September 3-6 this year, and organizers are expecting more visitors and exhibitors than last time; the exhibition halls are nearly fully booked.“We are expecting more than 2,000 international exhibitors from 70 nations,” says Claus Ulrich Selbach, Business Unit Director Maritime and Technology Fairs & Exhibitions at Hamburg Messe und Congress. “We are overwhelmed by the response. SMM Launches with High-Profile Guest Speakers

At today’s opening press conference of the international maritime trade fair in Hamburg, political and business leaders discussed current challenges facing the shipping industry. The focus of the debate was on the 0.5 percent sulphur limit for ship fuels which will take effect on January 1,  2020, and the industry's goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping in half by the year 2050. Roughly 2,300 exhibitors and the extensive conference program accompanying the trade fair will deliver answers to the industry's complex questions. Roughly 50,000 visitors are expected to attend.

Green Shipping: Toward a Clean Future

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced its targets of cutting greenhouse gas emissions from global shipping in half by the year 2050, and to make ships entirely CO2-neutral before 2100. But long before that, the so-called sulphur cap will take effect: From 2020 all oceangoing ships must run on fuel that contains no more than 0.5 per cent of sulphur. According to estimates by classification society DNV GL, up to 70,000 ships will be subject to this requirement.

IWSA to Host Wind Propulsion Forum at SMM

The International Windship Association (IWSA) will host its annual Wind Propulsion Innovation Forum at SMM2016 in Hamburg, including an extensive agenda with expert speakers and panelists that aim to provoke discussion and debate about wind propulsion as key to the future of sustainable shipping. The IWSA Innovation Forum spans all four days of the conference, September 6-9. A broad spectrum of wind propulsion technology providers and ship development projects will be showcasing the latest developments in Rotor technology, Suction Wing, Dynarig and various Hard Sail technologies.

50,000 Expected to Attend SMM 2014

Every two years Hamburg assumes the role of world capital of the maritime business for the duration of SMM, the leading international maritime trade fair Hamburg and a major meeting place of the decision makers of the maritime industry. Over 2,000 exhibitors and roughly 50,000 industry visitors from all continents are expected to attend the 2014 leading international maritime trade fair with its program of superlatives. "Next year's SMM will once again cover the full range of maritime topics, setting new trends in the industry," says Bernd Aufderheide, Chairman of the Board of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. There will be five featured topics, including financing, protection of the maritime environment, recruiting, safety and security and offshore.

At SMM 2010 ‘Green’ Technologies Center Stage

Last month MR’s Henrik Segercrantz traveled to Hamburg for an exclusive preview of the SMM 2010 exhibition. The SMM international trade fair for shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology will take place in Hamburg, Germany, on 7-10 September. This year much focus will be on environment-friendly technologies and products. The supporting program for SMM 2010 will for the first time this year include the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (gmec), and the Offshore Dialogue, which will also look into maritime technologies for offshore mining and wind farms.

Some 2000 exhibitors and more than 50,000 trade visitors are expected to attend the 24th shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology, international trade fair hamburg (SMM 2010), from 7 to 10 September 2010. This event will attract exhibitors from 50 nations, including the major yards from the leading shipbuilding nations, representatives of the marine equipment industry, and a whole range of small and medium-sized companies. More than 100 new exhibitors from all product areas have been accepted for SMM 2010. In the shipyard sector, for example, the Indian company Pipavav Shipyard Ltd. chose SMM 2010 for its first presentation on the international scene. It is India's largest shipyard, building freighters, offshore vessels and naval ships.

Global Maritime Environmental Congress

For two days, industry experts from all over the world will attend the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (GMEC) in Hamburg to discuss developments, to present results, and to set a new course for sustainable green shipping. Patronage for this event, which is to be held regularly in future, has been accepted by Chancellor Angela Merkel. From 7 to 8 September 2010, more than 700 leading representatives from industry, government, academia, navies, tourism and environmental protection will meet in Hamburg to discuss specific solutions for environment-friendly, sustainable shipping. The three Chairmen of the event are Micky Arison, Corrado Antonini and Spyros Polemis.
