VSAT Connectivity by Globecomm for Malaysia's PBJV Group

Globecomm Maritime, a leading provider of maritime communications solutions, has been awarded a contract to provide VSAT connectivity to PBJV Group's barge Kota Laksamana 101. The barge, which accommodates up to 300 personnel, was recently chartered to Petronas, a fully integrated energy company based in Malaysia. Under the terms of the deal, PBJV is required to provide a dedicated 512kbps up and down link to Petronas staff working on board the vessel. Globecomm Asia Regional Sales Manager Kian Ong, who led the project, says the scope of Globecomm's solution exceeded PBJV's expectations, despite intense competition for the contract.

Stena Line Renews Agreement with MCP

Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) announced the renewal of a major four-year management contract with the Stena Line for the deployment of maritime communications solutions onboard 16 passenger ferry vessels including two new super ferries. Services covered by the contract, which lasts until 2013, include GSM and GPRS. Stena Line also confirms future partnering with MCP to streamline dedicated wireless solutions to ship staff and unique SMS-driven marketing solutions to passengers. "This contract maintains and builds a positive environment for our customers. Today, 95% of our GSM business comes from Voice and SMS, but we are seeing an increased volume of data traffic.

Stratos Debuts MPDS for Fleet F33

Stratos Global Corp. announced the availability of Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS) for Inmarsat Fleet F33, bringing the benefits of always-on connectivity and data- transmission-based billing to smaller maritime vessels, including leisure, fishing, and coastal patrol boats. Stratos is the first Inmarsat service provider to formally announce the launch of this significant enhancement to Fleet F33. MPDS for Fleet F33 features persistent connectivity at speeds up to 64 kbps incoming from the satellite and up to 28 kbps outgoing from the terminal. This always-on, higher-speed option is particularly suited to IP-based data applications, such as Web surfing, intranet access and e-mail.

Telenor Signs with AUR

Telenor Satellite Services today announced the signing of a business agreement with Anders Utkilens Rederi (AUR) of Norway, one of northern Europe's largest maritime chemical transportation companies. The contract calls for Telenor to provide its Sealink maritime high-speed data communications solution aboard AUR's fleet of 16 chemical tanker vessels. Under the terms of this multi-year agreement, Telenor will provide Ku-Band service for AUR's entire fleet that operates primarily throughout European waters. Sealink's Ku- Band service provides AUR the capability to use high-speed communications applications at sea including LAN and WAN connectivity, video conferencing, and Internet access, while using smaller, less expensive shipboard equipment.
