Two extreme AC72 foiling catamarans with wing sails went head-to-head at over 40 knots in San Francisco Bay, California. The teams were competing in the 2013 Americas Cup Challenge which took place from September 7-21, 2013. Anyone watching the first few days of Americas Cup sailing will know that it looked like Emirates Team New Zealand had a seemingly untouchable lead – then out of the blue Oracle Team USA completed one of the greatest comebacks in sport to win the 34th America’s Cup.

Team Scarab, in conjunction with Torqeedo Motors and Ruckmarine, is pleased to announce the launch of the KONA 17' SportRIB, the first zero-emission, all-electric sport boat. The Kona debuts at the Progressive Insurance San Francisco Boat Show, January 23-26 at Pier 48 in San Francisco, California. Graham Gulf Grows with Jets

Project manager Larry Smith is excited about the latest crew boat built at C&G Boat Works' Mobile shipyard for sister company Graham Gulf. Larry started working with owner Janson Graham's grandfather 32 years ago and takes a kind a family interest in each new boat, but this one, the Graham Honor, is the company's first jet. "It allows a flatter hull," explains Smith, "With only about 1.5 ft. The overall molded depth for the 155 x 29-ft. hull is 13 ft. The 155-ft. LOA results from the addition of a 10-foot extension out over the transom to provide extra deck space and to protect the jets. This results in a big 98 x 25-ft. aft deck capable of 200 tons of cargo. The move to jets also allows some shifting in the engine spaces.

Graham Gulf Commissions a Special Boat

The Graham name is well known in the Gulf of Mexico maritime world with family ownership of fleet operator Graham Gulf and the C&G Boat Works in Mobile, Ala. As Graham Gulf’s newest crew boat leaves the C&G Boat Works and goes into service this month it will mark a special memorial. The 165-ft. vessel is named for Gayla Graham, sister to Janson Graham and a partner in the firm, who died tragically in an auto accident last year. The Gayla Graham is getting every extra attention to detail that her builders can provide in honor of her namesake. Larry Smith, who overseas the Graham Gulf jobs in the shipyard, said, “We’re doing a special job on this one. The boat is built to comply with Subchapter T rules and full class in accordance with ABS High Speed Craft Guide.

Having built over 200 aluminum RHIB's, Silver Ships, Inc. / AMBAR Marine, has grabbed a foothold in the design and construction of aluminum RHIB's - all of which are constructed in accordance with SOLAS regulations. The U.S. Coast Guard operates 90 AMBAR Marine Non-Standard RHIB's and the U.S. Navy Sea Systems Command operates 40 AMBAR Marine Special Service RHIB's. Silver Ships, Inc./AMBAR Marine constructs approximately 43 vessels per year, 80 percent of which are RHIB's while the remaining 20% have been Patrol/Security boats, and various work boats ranging from 23-48 ft. (7-14.6 m). Upon discovery, in 1966 following extensive R&D, Lanness McKee, Sr. uncovered the secret to the most rugged, unsinkable marine construction in the market.

RIB Report: Manufacturers Review

AB Inflatables offers its Profile line of aluminum hull RIBs. The rugged, 3.28-mil hulls are lighter than comparable fiberglass hulls and are perfectly suited for operating in lakes and rivers or along rocky coastlines. In these environments, the aluminum bottoms also help resist abrasions from coral and sandy beaches. An extra air chamber between the hull and the floor keeps the Profile models buoyant even when flooded. The large-diameter tubes of the boats are made from 1670 decitex Hypalon/Neoprene fabric. They include wear patches along the top and a heavy-duty rubrail. Decks are non-skid and sealed to the hull with epoxy. The A12…
