ABS Elects New Council

At the 150th Annual Meeting of the Members of ABS, three industry leaders were elected to the ABS Council. Following the Annual Meeting, the ABS Council met and elected industry leaders to both its Marine and Offshore Technical Committees. Individuals serving on the ABS Council and the Technical Committees help guide the class society in fulfilling its mission of promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment. “Classification represents the concept of self-regulation for the marine and offshore industry,” said ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki.

MODEC Aides FGL

MODEC Inc., announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, MODEC (USA) Inc. in partnership with the current management team of Friede & Goldman, Ltd. (FGL) has signed a contract with Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. to acquire the assets of Friede & Goldman Ltd. The acquisition is subject to approval by the United States Bankruptcy Court. Commenting on the agreement,. Paul Geiger Jr., President of Friede & Goldman, Ltd. said, “This acquisition led by the management team with the support of MODEC Group gives a tremendous boost to the business activities of FGL. Geiger Named FGH President

Friede Goldman Halter elected Paul Geiger, Jr. as president of Friede & Goldman, Ltd., the company's naval architecture division, which is renowned for its designs of mobile offshore drilling units for the offshore energy industry. Geiger, who joined the company in 1989 as vice president of design, will head Friede & Goldman's newly consolidated offices in Houston.

Grants Licenses To Build Seven F&G Designs

Friede & Goldman, Ltd. announced that it has completed licensing contracts for the construction of four JU-2000E jackup rigs and for three ExD semi-submersible designs. These seven licensing agreements combined with their contract engineering projects bring F&G’s total contracts value to an all time high and enhances F&G’s reputation as the leader of independent conceptual design of mobile offshore drilling units. The licensing agreements to build four F&G designed JU-2000E jackup drilling rigs include option agreements for four additional JU-2000E’s. In addition, F&G signed contracts to provide their patented “Rack Chock” leg fixation system for each of the newbuild jackups.
