Established in 1907 as the Industrial Revolution arrived to Seattle, Markey is the oldest privately-held winch manufacturer in the United States today. The company was formed in the Georgetown District of what later became known as King County, Wash. Cargotec, Konecranes Win EU Antitrust Approval for $5 Billion Merger

Cargotec and Konecranes on Thursday won EU antitrust clearance for their 4.5-billion-euro ($5 billion) deal to create a global leader in industrial machinery after agreeing to divest some businesses.The companies, which provide road and sea-cargo handling machinery and services to industries, factories, ports and terminals, announced their tie-up in October last year.The European Commission said the companies' remedies addressed its concerns that the deal may hurt competition and lead to higher prices, confirming a Reuters story on Feb.

Large Offshore Wind Tower Manufacturing Plant to be Built at Port of Nigg, UK

Global Energy Group (ā€œGEGā€), the Scottish-based energy services company has agreed on terms with offshore wind tower manufacturing specialist, Haizea Wind Group (ā€œHaizeaā€), to build a £110m-plus (~$146 million) offshore wind tubular rolling facility at Port of Nigg, located in the Scottish Highlands. GEG said Friday that Nigg Offshore Wind (ā€œNOWā€) would be 450-meter-long, 38,000 m2 factory, capable of rolling steel plate to supply towers which will weigh in excess of 1,000 tonnes each and other productsā€¦

Coxā€™s Diesel Outboard Enters Production

UK-based engine manufacturer Cox Powertrain said its purpose-designed 300hp CXO300 diesel outboard engine has entered production following several years of development and testing.Production will commence in Cox Powertrainā€™s headquarters and assembly and test facilities in Shoreham, West Sussex UK. The assembly plant boasts a turnkey Production System developed by QM Systems Ltd, a maker of manufacturing and test systems across all industries. Seaway Closing to Cost $250Mln per Week

Closing the St. Lawrence Seaway in December to accommodate higher water outflow at the Moses-Saunders dam would cost the Canadian and U.S. economies $250 million/per week ā€” impacting farmersā€™ grain exports, manufacturing plant operations and disrupting deliveries of fuel, construction materials and road salt for winter safety to cites throughout the region.The Chamber of Marine Commerce is issuing todayā€™s comments to provide a wider context of the economic repercussions related to calls to increase the water outflow at Moses-Saunders dam to levels that would be unsafe for navigation and halt shipping on the St. Lawrence Seaway during December.Increasing outflows above the safe navigation limit to the highest levels possible would lower Lake Ontario levels less than 4 centimeters a week.

Siemens Gamesa Buys Senvion Wind Biz

German-Spanish  wind turbine manufacturing giant Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has agreed a $225m deal to buy 8.9GW of the European onshore service business of embattled Germany-based rival Senvion along with its smaller rivalā€™s blade factory in Portugal.Senvion´s European service assets will strengthen Siemens Gamesa´s capacity and potential in an important segment. The acquisition of a Service fleet of 8.9GW from Senvion will take Siemens Gamesa to a total of nearly 69GW under maintenance, explained the turbine manufacturer in a press release.The addition of these assets helps to diversify Siemens Gamesa´s business mix andā€¦

Industry veteran Terry Samona has been named Vice President of Human Resources at Viega LLC.Samona oversees human resources management and development at Viegaā€™s operations in the U.S., including headquarters and a seminar center in Broomfield, Colo.; a manufacturing plant and distribution hub in McPherson, Kan.; three additional distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania; and a seminar center in Nashua, N.H.Samonaā€™s entire career has been in human resources. Coldharbour Going after Japanese Type Approval

Ballast water treatment systems manufacturer Coldharbour Marine said it has engaged Japanese classification society ClassNK to assist in the process of obtaining Japanese type approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. UTLC Launches Service from China to Europe

Russia's JSC United Transport and Logistics Company (UTLC) jointly with KTZ-Express launched a new transport product for the delivery of non-hazardous chemical goods in tank containers from China to Europe as part of the regular container service U West (Dostyk-Brest). The first train, consisting of 82 twenty-foot tank containers, loaded with butylene glycol produced by XINJIANG MARKOR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY, departed from Korla Station (China). The cargo transited through the territories of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus and further through Poland through the territories of the EU countries to the terminal at the station Duisburg (Germany). UTLC provided a service on a track of 1520 mm at the section Dostyk - Brest.

Liebherr Offshore Cranes Accessing New Markets

Liebherrā€™s maritime manufacturing plant in Rostock has been awarded the contract to supply the heavy-lift crane for the Orion, a new wind farm installation and platform decommissioning vessel ordered by DEME from COSCO (QiDong) Offshore, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The crane is rated at 3,000 metric tons at more than 50 meters, with a lifting height in excess of 170 meters and a designation of HLC (Heavy-Lift Crane) 295000. Delivery will be spring 2019. Technip Bags Woodside's Subsea Contract

Technip has been awarded a large(1) subsea contract by Woodside to support the development of the Greater Enfield Project offshore Western Australia, at a water depth comprised between 340 and 850 meters. - multi-phase pump system (transport and installation). Technipā€™s operating center in Perth, Australia will execute the contract with support from Technipā€™s Asia Pacific Subsea Hub in the Kuala Lumpur office in Malaysia, and office in Chennai, India. - the umbilicals will be supplied by Technip Umbilicalsā€™ facility located in Newcastle, UK. - The offshore installation will be using several vessels from Technipā€™s fleet and is scheduled for completion in 2018. Beier Purchases South Coast Electric Systems

Beier Integrated Systems (Beier) informs it has purchased South Coast Electric Systems (SCES) from American Electric Technologies (AETI), expanding the its manufacturing capabilities in the marine market. Beier said it will acquire SCESā€™s operations, including a manufacturing plant and equipment in Bay St. Louis, Miss, and will add 13 employees of the South Coast Electric operation to its team. SCES, a marine and industrial electrical switchgear manufacturer and service provider, has been in business for 14 years. South Coast Electric Systems will now operate under a new name - South Coast Electric, LLC. ā€œWe are very excited about refitting existing vessels and engineering new vessels with our new power and control products from South Coast Electricā€¦

Danish Delegation in Iran Eyes Shipping, Energy Deals

Danish companies are eyeing a series of energy and shipping projects in Iran following a visit this week by the country's foreign minister, local news agencies and officials said on Tuesday. The Danish foreign ministry said its minister, Kristian Jensen, travelled to Tehran with a delegation representing 58 companies on Monday and that exports could increase by 500 million Danish crowns ($72 million) once sanctions against Iran's nuclear programme are lifted. News agency Shana cited Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zanganeh as saying Danish companies were interested in developing oil fields in the Caspian Sea including the South Pars gas field, which also produces condensates. Global conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk is in the oil industry through its Maersk Oil unit.

ATTC Celebrates 75 Years

In 1940, Jack Walters, Sr. started manufacturing oxy-fuel cutting tips in a makeshift workshop in his home. As the demand for materials and manufacturing brought on by World War II increased, Walters started American Torch Tip Co. (ATTC) in a small, rented garage in Pittsburgh, Pa. Seventy-five years later, ATTCā€™s manufacturing plant and headquarters now occupy approximately 72,000 sq. ft., spanning three buildings in Bradenton, Fla. There, the company produces about 20,000 parts, encompassing five welding technologies including Plasma, MIG, TIG, Oxy-Fuel and Laser.

Technip Awards EPIC Offshore Malaysia Contract from Petronas

French oilfield services provider Technip SA  said it has been awarded an engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd or PCSB for D18 Project. The project covers the procurement and installation of two 8ā€ water injection flexible pipes totalling 9.5 kilometers. The flexible pipes will connect three fixed jacket platforms which form the existing D18 infrastructure offshore Sarawak, Malaysia, at a water depth of 36 meters. This contract is part of the 5-year Framework Agreement signed with PETRONAS in late 2014 and is in line with Technip strategy to strengthen its partnerships with its clients to drive cost optimization.

Technip to Modernize Flexi France

Technip announces an investment over four years to modernize its flexible pipe manufacturing plant, Flexi France, in Le Trait, France. Further strengthening Technipā€™s expertise and industrial capabilities at the site will reinforce its global position in the production of flexible pipes, for the development of offshore oil and gas fields. This modernization plan focuses on the installation of new-generation machines and site optimization to fit 12 meter diameter reels, on which flexible pipes are spooled. Increasing the reel capacity from 9.6 to 12 meters in diameter will provide room for twice as much flexible pipes on each reel. Technip's investment will also create a new area dedicated to the testing of the worldā€™s most sophisticated flexible pipes.

Boxco Moves Longest Column through Mumbai Port

Boxco Logistics has set the bar high yet again, by moving the LONGEST COLUMN EVER that was transported in and out of Mumbai Port. It all started in the industrial township of Dahej in the state of Gujarat at ISGEC Heavy Engineeringā€™s manufacturing plant. The multimodal logistics, involving engineering and execution of transporting the equipment from Dahej to Mumbai for further export to Mexico, were carried by the team at Boxco Logistics. Apart from the C2 Splitter, a 380 MT Quench water tower and a 250 MTDemethaniserwere also to be transported along with their accessories. The transportation of the columns from ISGEC plant to Adani port was a challenge for C2 Splitter which measured 91 m x 9.5 m x 9 m in dimensions.
