Thales’s JTRS Receives JITC Certification
Thales Communications, Inc., has announced that its AN/PRC-148 Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Enhanced Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (MBITR), or JEM, has received Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification for the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) satellite communications (SATCOM) Integrated Waveform (IW). Thales’s SATCOM IW capability eliminates the need for warfighters to carry their existing heavy, manpack tactical radio systems, and enables each member of the team to deploy with a fully-interoperable, beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) capability. The JITC certification allows users access to SATCOM IW on their fielded AN/PRC-148 JEMs via software upgrade, producing minimal impact on deployed radios and requiring minimal operator intervention.
Man Jumps From Cruise Ship, Rescued by Casino Boat Crew
A man who jumped from a cruise ship into the Atlantic ocean was rescued by the crew of a gambling ship early on Wednesday after spending more than seven hours in the sea, Coast Guard and cruise officials said. The unidentified 23-year-old man was a passenger on Royal Caribbean's Sovereign of the Seas, a 2,280-passenger ship on a four-day cruise out of Florida's Port Canaveral. His sailing companions reported him missing about 2 a.m. on Wednesday and crewmen searched the vessel, finding a note in his stateroom "indicating that he might have been considering jumping from the ship," Royal Caribbean spokesman Michael Sheehan said. Green Bay Embraces Namesake Ship
Citizens of “Titletown” rolled out the red carpet for their city’s namesake ship, Pre-commissioning Unit (PCU) Green Bay (LPD 20), during several civic ceremonies June 25. Green Bay’s prospective commanding officer Cmdr. Calvin Slocumb and his planned relief, Cmdr. Joseph Olson traveled to Green Bay to strengthen the ship’s already strong ties to the community. Green Bay Mayor James J. Schmitt hosted the officers at the annual Kids Day Festival at Fisk Park.
