DOT Announces $703M in Port Funding; 41 Projects in 22 States

U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced more than $703 million to fund 41 projects in 22 states and one territory that designed to help improve port facilities through the Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program. Following is the full list of FY 2022 Port Infrastructure Development Grant Awards:ALASKANorth Extension Stabilization Step 1 Project ($68,700,000), Anchorage, AlaskaThe Project will reconfigure and realign the shoreline within the “North Extension” (the area north of the existing general cargo terminals) at the Port of Alaska in Anchorage, Alaska.

Port of New Orleans Resumes Containership Operations After Hurricane Ida

Container vessel operations resumed at the Port of New Orleans on Tuesday, nine days after Hurricane Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a category 4 storm.The first two ships worked at the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal were the MSC Charleston at New Orleans Terminal and the Hapag Lloyd CSL Manhattan at Ports America. Seacor’s container on barge service will be worked tonight by Ports America.“Our wharves are busy today, handling both container and breakbulk cargo vessels, and trains are moving,” said Brandy D.

Port NOLA Sets New Box Record

Louisiana’s only international container port Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) moved more containers in 2019 than at any time in its history, totaling 648,538 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 10% compared to one year ago.The multimodal gateway for global trade said in a press release that the record marks the sixth consecutive year the Port surpassed the half million TEU-mark at its Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal, which is operated by New Orleans Terminal and Ports America.“Port NOLA has now seen double-digit growth in total container volumes for two consecutive years, primarily driven by the Panama Canal expansion, exports from Louisiana’s booming petrochemical industry and a growing market for imports,” said Brandy D.

Port NOLA Sets Container Record in 2018

Alabama, APM Invest in Port of Mobile

The Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) and APM Terminals boards of directors in separate actions have approved a $49.5 million expansion of the container facility at the Port of Mobile. The Port Authority and APM Terminals jointly will deliver a Phase 3 expansion that includes a dock extension and an additional 20 acres of improved yard to maintain excess capacity to accommodate new business opportunities. When completed, the project will accommodate an annual throughput capacity of 650,000 TEU. “The Phase 3 expansion enables us to stay well ahead of the growth pattern we’ve seen in the Port of Mobile, as well as add dock space to support the growing vessel sizes that are coming to the terminal.

Neches River Reopened Following Oil Spill

The U.S. Coast Guard has lifted its safety zone on the Neches River Tuesday as oil spill cleanup activities near their conclusion. The response began after a pipeline at the Jefferson Energy Terminal released an estimated 880 gallons of Eagle Ford crude oil into the river Saturday afternoon, leading to the river’s closure from the Kansas City Southern Railroad Bridge to the north end of the Standolind Anchorage, near light151. With the safety zone lifted, all vessel traffic may now transit without restriction, but the Coast Guard has requested that mariners observe a minimal wake zone through the affected area. New Baton Rouge Deepwater Dock: Genesis to Invest US$150-Million

Genesis Energy, L.P. announce plans to invest approximately US$150-million to construct a new crude oil, intermediates and refined products import / export terminal in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (the Baton Rouge Terminal). The Baton Rouge Terminal will be located on approximately 90 acres of land near the Port of Greater Baton Rouge (the Port) and will be connected to the Port’s existing deepwater docks on the Mississippi River. The docks are capable of berthing vessels ranging from barges to Aframax class vessels.

Grupo TMM Reports 4Q, Full-Year 2005 Results

Grupo TMM, S.A. reported earnings of $0.41 per share for the fourth quarter of 2005 compared to a loss of $1.62 per share a year ago, and earnings of $3.02 per share for the full year of 2005 compared to a loss of $1.80 per share in the same period of last year. TMM reported the following results for the fourth quarter: Revenue of $88.3 million, up 30.2 percent from $67.8 million the previous year; Operating income of $2.8 million, up from an operating loss of $0.1 million a year ago; Operating margin of 3.2 percent, up 3.3 percentage points from the previous year; Net income of $23.6 million compared to a net loss after discontinuing operations of $92.3 million the previous year.
