New Nickel Ore Cargo Guidelines

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Class society ClassNK has released new guidelines for nickel ore cargoes in an attempt to address safety concerns related to the carriage of potentially dangerous bulk cargo. Nickel ore is of great concern since its liquefaction was linked to the casualties of three vessels at the end of 2010. ClassNK’s new guidelines detail transportation procedures and technical requirements for nickel ore cargoes based on both the requirements of the IMSBC Code and the society’s own independent findings. The new guidelines have been released in English, Japanese, and Chinese editions. The English edition can be found online at the following address: http://www.classnk.or.jp/hp/Rules_Guidance/Guidelines/ guidlines_nickel_ore_e.pdf
