As privately owned, luxury yachts near the size of the average cruise ship, behold a new option, which is anything but commonplace: The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. At 624 feet and 11 decks, her exterior profile resembles a sleek superyacht design, not a cruise ship on the horizon. Launched in October 2018 at Hijos de J. Barreras Shipyard in Vigo, Spain, the flagship of the new brand is now in outfitting and interior finishing. The project was co-managed by The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Marriott and Tillberg Design of Sweden.

Cruiseport Boston Closes Out 2016 Cruise Season

As Cruiseport Boston closes out its successful 2016 season, 2017 is already shaping up to be a record year with 151 calls scheduled for next cruise season. The 2016 season saw 115 calls by a record 32 unique ships with ten maiden calls to the port, including Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas, the largest cruise ship to ever call the Port of Boston. Cruiseport Boston has seen years of steady growth which has contributed to the booming cruise business in Boston.

31st Edition of Cruise Shipping Miami

Cruise Shipping Miami 2015 is gearing up to offer the most comprehensive and robust roster of panel discussions featuring the industry's most knowledgeable and experienced executives. The panels will be grouped under several broad themes based on industry trends during the four-day conference. The 31st edition of Cruise Shipping Miami is scheduled for March 16-19 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Organized by UBM Connect, thematic topics include The Geography of Cruise Tourism, Safety and Ship Operations, Market Segments and Cruise Product Development. On Tuesday morning, March 17, the conference will open with the popular State of the Industry session. Participants in that plenary session will be announced in the coming weeks. This program may be subject to alterations and additions.

Holland America Line's Enticing Offers for Cruise Vacation

Holland America Line is planning special promotions for National Cruise Vacation Week (NCVW), which runs Oct. 6-13, 2014. Organized by Cruise Lines International Association, the weeklong event features promotions and online opportunities to give consumers a perfect opportunity to book a cruise vacation while taking advantage of special savings. “Each year National Cruise Vacation Week highlights cruising as a vacation choice, and we are celebrating by offering special promotions to entice travelers to book their dream vacation,” said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs for Holland America Line.

HAL Launches ‘Discover Canada & New England’

Holland America Line launched a “Discover Canada & New England Sweepstakes” that will award five of the line’s Pinterest followers a $500 American Express gift card. The sweepstakes runs through Sept. 20, 2014, and the winners will be selected in a random drawing at the end of September. Participants can visit the Discover Canada & New England tab on Holland America Line’s Facebook page and choose their favorite Canada & New England highlight photo from a selection of six colorful and captivating images. Entrants then provide the required information and click submit, which will pin the image to one of their personal Pinterest boards. In order to be eligible to win, entrants must also follow Holland America Line’s Pinterest Page (www.pinterest.com/halcruises).

Holland America Line Offers ‘Explore 4’ Early Booking

Holland America Line knows the trend for savvy travelers is to book vacations well in advance. To encourage those early bookings the line is returning with its popular “Explore 4” savings program that is better than before with four exceptional offers on select 2015 and 2016 sailings. The “Explore 4” benefits include a free Signature Beverage Package and free Pinnacle Grill dinner for guests booking an ocean-view and higher category stateroom, free or reduced cruise fares for third and fourth guests in the same stateroom on select sailings and 50 percent reduced deposits. Suite bookings also receive a $300 onboard spending credit per stateroom ($150 per person) and a free Canaletto dinner in addition to the other four offers.

Holland America Line Returns to Bermuda

Holland America Line is returning to the pink sands and pastel-colored skyline of Bermuda on seven-day cruises aboard ms Veendam. Sailing roundtrip from Boston, Mass., six departures will sail in May, June and July, and feature three days and nights at Hamilton, the country’s capital known for its gorgeous beaches and abundance of golf courses. Carrying 1,350 guests, Veendam offers a mid-size ship experience in Bermuda that enables the vessel to dock at Hamilton in the center of town. The seven-day voyages spend a day at sea after departing Boston and arrive at Hamilton mid-day with enough time for guests to go ashore and enjoy the town. The ship then spends three nights alongside, where guests can experience local nightlife and dine ashore, if desired.

Holland America Line’s Will Award 'Lucky Fan' 7-Day Cruise

Holland America Line has launched a “Perfect Day Cruise Sweepstakes” on Facebook that will award one lucky fan a seven-day cruise for two in a verandah stateroom to Europe, Canada/New England, the Caribbean, Mexico or Alaska. The sweepstakes runs through June 24, 2014, and the winner will be selected in a random drawing in early July. To enter the contest, new visitors to Holland America Line’s Facebook page must “like” the company. Holland America Line fans click on the “Perfect Day Cruise Sweepstakes” tab and complete the simple entry form. Fans have the option to upload a travel photo that captures their idea of a perfect day to share in Holland America Line’s Facebook photo gallery. Participants can enter once per day through June 24 for a chance to win the cruise.

Massport Launch 2013 Cruise Season

With Friday’s Bermuda sailing of the Norwegian Dawn, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) launches the 2013 cruise season at Cruiseport Boston’s Black Falcon Terminal in South Boston. New this year, Massport is offering travelers free wireless Internet access at the cruise terminal to meet traveler’s expectations to be mobile enabled. More than 80% of vacation travelers bring at least one device, such as a smartphone, e-reader or laptop with them on vacation and 65 percent of travelers have used free wifi in an accommodations lobby or common area, according to a national electronics retailer. Cruiseport Boston’s free wifi service is supported by advertising and sponsorship programs.

22 Seaports to Receive AAPA Awards

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), a trade group representing port authorities throughout the Western Hemisphere, has selected 22 seaports to be recognized for exemplary projects, programs and initiatives at its annual awards event later this summer. The awards, for achievements in facilities engineering, environmental improvement, information technology and communications, will be presented to winning ports at a Sept. 14 luncheon in conjunction with AAPA's 100th Annual Convention in Seattle (https://www.aapa2011.org/main.aspx), which runs Sept. 11-15. * the Port of Long Beach, winner of the 2011 Dan Maynard Communications Award for Overall Excellence, which is bestowed on the port earning the most award points in AAPA's Communications Awards Program competition.

GE Gas Turbines Power Three New Cruise Ships

GE announced that three new cruise ships recently went into service powered by GE LM aeroderivative gas turbines. The three ships -- Serenade of the Seas, Island Princess and Oosterdam -- each took their maiden voyage during July 2003. “GE is delighted to see the number of cruise ships continue to rise steadily that rely on our reliable and efficient LM gas turbines for propulsion as well as onboard power,” said Karl Matson, general manager of GE Marine Engines. “To date, 22 LM2500+ and four LM2500 GE gas turbine-generator sets are in operation or slated for service on 21 cruise ships.

Meyer Werft Delivers to RCCL

The most recent addition to Royal Caribbean's (RCCL) fleet of vessels is the 90,090-gt Serenade of the Seas, which was delivered to the cruise line by Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on July 30, 2003. The third member of the Radiance-class fleet, Serenade, along with its sisterships, is a luxury cruise vessel boasting a very slim, yachtlike design with extensive use of glass on the outside, as more than 80 percent of the vessel's cabins are designated as outside cabins. Serenade features advanced technology designed to make the ship efficient, and to ensure it is as quiet and vibration free as possible. To this end, it features an advanced gas turbine propulsion plant, and its 15 decks employ the latest in sound dampening technology.

Holland America Line's to Name New Ship in Rotterdam

Holland America Line will hold the official naming ceremony for it's first Signature-class ship, ms Eurodam, July 1, 2008, in Rotterdam, the city where the 135-year-old Dutch company was founded. Naming ceremonies will be held near the company's original headquarters, which now operates as the Hotel New York. Numerous events and activities are being planned to showcase the vessel to key stakeholders, including past guests, travel agents, former employees, local dignitaries, media and others. The ship arrives Jun. 29 to begin four days of celebrations and departs Jul. 2 for a three-day prelude cruise with its first guests. In the days leading up to the naming, the Eurodam will sail from Venice, Italy, to Southampton, England, before arriving in Rotterdam.

Dench Serves as Carnival Legend Godmother

Dame Judi Dench, star of "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Shakespeare in Love" and the three latest James Bond 007 films, served as godmother to Carnival Cruise Lines' newest ship, Carnival Legend, at an official naming ceremony in Harwich, England, Wednesday, August 21. Oscar-winner Dench broke the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship's hull to officially name Carnival Legend. Dench was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1988. Built in Finland, the 88,500-ton 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend features 12 passenger decks, 16 bars and lounges, four swimming pools, a three-deck water slide, Internet cafe, 14,500-square-foot health spa, duty-free shopping mall, wedding chapel, video arcade, 1,800-square-ft. children's play area and three restaurants.
