New Workboat to Serve Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty

A new utility/passenger vessel has been delivered and will soon go to work for the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) to serve Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.The all-steel newbuild, designed by New Orleans-based TAI Engineers, LLC, has been named Annie Moore after the first immigrant, a 15-year-old Irish girl, who signed the Ellis Island register."TAI has designed and built many boats and ships, but this project is particularly special to me," said Anil Raj, President of TAI. S&B Acquires Technology Associates, Inc.

Houston-based engineering company S&B Infrastructure, Ltd. (S&B) on Monday announced it has acquired naval architecture and marine engineering firm Technology Associates, Inc. (TAI). New Jones Act SOV Design Unveiled

New Hydrographic Survey Vessel for USACE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Norfolk District accepted delivery of a new high-speed foil assisted hydrographic survey vessel, due to be commissioned on May 31, 2018.The all-aluminum catamaran, S/V Ewell, measures 61’-4” length overall with a 24’ beam. The vessel has two levels; the first has survey stations, and a pilot house is on the second level. Firefighting Vessel Delivered to the US Army

New Orleans based maritime solutions company Technology Associates, Inc. (TAI) informs it has completed its contract for the design and construction of a fast response firefighting vessel delivered to the U.S. Army, in support of U.S. Military Surface Deployment Distribution Command (SDDC) 596th Transportation Brigade (TB), on June 12, 2015. TAI Awarded US Army Fireboat Contract

Technology Associates, Inc. (TAI) of New Orleans, La., announced that it has been notified by the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Rock Island (ACC-RI) that it has been evaluated as the successful offerer for a contract to design and supply a 75 ft high speed fireboat to the U.S. Army. The fireboat will provide maritime firefighting protection and support at the Military Ocean Terminal Concord (MOTCO) in Concord, California. Technology Associates Opens Office in India

A naval engineering company, has opened an office in India that will double its size. Technology Associates, which has 17 employees in New Orleans, will add 24 workers to the new office by the end of the year, the company announced this week. FGH Announces Two New Contracts

Halter Marine, Inc. the vessel segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. announced that it has signed a contract with an undisclosed customer to build a 332' x 74' x 25', double-skin, clean oil tank barge with an estimated 80,000 BBL capacity. This vessel meets the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA 90). This barge is similar in design to one currently under construction at the Halter Gulfport, Miss. facility. Construction will begin at Halter's Gulfport, Miss. facility and take approximately 12 months. Although no new jobs will be created, the project is expected to sustain the facility's current workforce. In recent years, Halter has built 88 similar barges, and currently holds contracts and options for an additional 8 vessels.

FGH Announces $10 Million in New Contracts

FGH Engineered Products Group, the equipment segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., announced that its AmClyde unit has signed new contracts totaling over $10 million with several customers in the international offshore oil and gas sector. Halter Marine Will Build Tugs for Lockheed Martin

Halter Marine, Inc (HMI), a division of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. (FGHLQ) announced that it has received a Letter of Intent from Lockheed Martin Overseas Corporation to design, and build two Voith Schneider Tractor Tugs. This is a portion of a contract that Lockheed Martin signed with the Egyptian Ministry of Transport earlier this month. Lockheed has released funding for design and planning at this time, with details on the remainder of the project to be finalized later. The project is expected to take twenty-six months to complete. VMS To Christen Halter-Built ATB

Crowley Maritime's Vessel Management Services, Inc., will christen the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels this year in New Orleans on Thursday, April 25. The vessels to be christened are the 9,280-hp tug Sea Reliance and the 155,000-barrel barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its Contract services segment. "We are looking forward to christening and putting these exceptional new vessels into service for our customer," said Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime.

VMS Christens New ATB

Vessel Management Services, Inc., a Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary, on April 25 christened the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company will take delivery of this year. The vessels christened were the 9,280-hp tug Sea Reliance and 155,000-barrel barge 550-1. At ceremonies held on the Riverwalk at the New Orleans Hilton, Christine Sande Crowley, wife of Tom Crowley Jr., Chairman, President and CEO of Crowley Maritime, christened the Sea Reliance, and her mother, Linda Engle Sande, christened barge 550-1. Intrepid Ship Management, a subsidiary of Marine Transport Lines, will charter the Halter Marine-built ATB from Vessel Management Services and operate it. Marine Transport is a Crowley subsidiary and part of its contract services segment.

First of Two Halter-Built Vessels Christened

Halter Marine, Inc. (HMI), a division of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. announced the christening of the first of two articulated tug-barges (ATB) for long-time customer-vessel management services, a Crowley Maritime Corporation subsidiary, and part of its Corporate Services segment. An ATB is built with an articulated pin connection system between the tug and barge that allows movement in the critical area of fore and aft pitch. Christened Sea Reliance, the 9,280 HP tug design is the result of a joint project between Halter Marine and Vessel Management Services. The latest environmental and safety advances, including double-sided construction, along with increased efficiencies in hose handling anchoring, mooring, discharge and loading product are incorporated into the design.

FGH Elects New COO

Friede Goldman Halter has appointed Anil Raj as its COO, effective immediately. Raj, who served previously as the company's senior vice president, Government Projects, joined Halter Marine in 1987 as director of Engineering. Raj has also held positions at Brown & Root, and Gulf Fleet Marine Corp. He holds a BSE degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan.

Halter Lays Keel for U.S. Army’s Newest ELSV

HMI, a division of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. laid the keel of the U.S. Army’s Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM) new Enhanced Logistic Vessel (ELSV). The vessel will support TACOM logistical efforts on a worldwide basis. The completed vessels will be 314 ft. long, have a 60 ft. beam and an overall depth of 19ft. The construction will take about two years to complete. Halter has previously built for the U.S. Army 6 Logistic Support Vessels, 6 large tugs and 35 LCU-2000 class landing craft utilities. Christenings & Deliveries

Trico Marine Services, Inc., has taken delivery on the Northern Canyon, a 279-ft. UT 745 design platform supply vessel (PSV). The state-of-the-art vessel is designed to serve deepwater markets worldwide. Built in Norway, the Northern Canyon is equipped with a DP2 (dynamic positioning) system and is among the largest, most technologically advanced PSVs available in the industry. The vessel, which will be deployed initially in the North Sea, is quipped as a remotely operated vehicle vessel to perform subsea construction work globally. It has been awarded a three-year contract by Canyon-Offshore, Inc. Trico is scheduled to take delivery of a second 279-ft. PSV in September 2002. It also expects to take delivery of three new generation 155-ft.

VT Halter Marine, Inc., a subsidiary of Vision Technologies Systems, Inc. (VT Systems) has finalized an agreement with the U.S. Government to complete two contracts, including the construction of a Fisheries Research Vessel for the National Oceanographic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the construction of a Logistic Support Vessel for the U.S. Army. The Agreement, known as a “novation” provides an arrangement for VT Halter Marine to complete the multi-million dollar construction projects started by its predecessor. It was approved after the U.S. Government conducted an in-depth review to assure it was in their best interest to transfer the contracts to VT Halter Marine.

Tug/Barge Units Establish VMS as ATB Leader

The 9,280 hp Ocean Relience is the first of two tugs built by Marinette Marine Corp. for Vessel Management Services (VMS), a Crowley Maritime Co. The vessel is intended to operate as a tug/barge unit in conjunction with the 155,000-barrel tank barge 550-3. Construction engineering for the barge was also accomplished by Schuller & Allan LLC. The connection device is an Intercon Coupling system. Earlier this year, Vessel Management Services, Inc. christened the first of four Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) tank vessels that the company took in 2002, the 9,280 hp-tug Sea Reliance and 155,000-barrel barge 550-1, built by Halter Marine. The barge 550-1 was built at Halter's Port Bienville shipyard in Pearlington, Miss., and the Sea Reliance at its Moss Point Marine shipyard, in Escatawpa, Miss.

Amclyde Wins Contracts

FGH Engineered Products Group, the equipment segment of Friede Goldman Halter, Inc., announced that its AmClyde unit has signed new contracts in excess of $13.5 million with customers in Freeport, Texas and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. "AmClyde is very pleased to receive these key orders from our long-standing customer NPCC (National Petroleum Construction Company) of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and our new customer Cabett Subsea Products, Inc. of Houston, Texas," said Dick Juelich, AmClyde President. AmClyde has a contract with NPCC to provide a significant operating increase of the lifting capacity and reach for their 2000-ton model 76 marine crane, originally built in 1973.

Local Yards Start to Feel the Impact

The U.S. Gulf of Mexico region is again poised to prosper, spurred by the buzz of activity surrounding the oil patch, and specifically the renewed vigor with which companies will explore and develop deepwater fields for the production of natural resources. Though the resumption of business at "full throttle" has taken perhaps a bit longer than many observers would have initially predicted, particularly given the continued high price of oil and gas and the "pro" oil industry political team occupying the White House, it is a safe bet that, at least for the next several years, the offshore oil business will ensure that the marine business in the GOM region is a prosperous one.
