International engineering and project management consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV has celebrated the opening of its new office in Vietnam in a ceremony which also marked 30 years of operations in the country. The event was attended by Mr Simon van der Burg, Dutch Consul General in Vietnam together with representatives from Royal HaskoningDHV including Mr Erik Oostwegel, Chairman, Ms Jaska de Bakker, CFO and Mr Lars Crombach, Managing Director in Vietnam.

The opening of Royal HaskoningDHV’s new office in Ho Chi Minh City underlines the company’s strong growth in Vietnam. The company, which has offices in Ho Chi Minh City and in Hanoi, has relocated from its previous premises in the economic centre of Vietnam to a larger, modern building in a new business district.

From its first project in 1985 to rehabilitate a dyke destroyed by a typhoon, Royal HaskoningDHV’s work has grown to cover areas including industry, infrastructure, maritime, water supply, flood management and buildings. Today it has nearly 200 employees in the country. It is recognised as one of the region’s leading engineering and consultancy firms with a unique track record in Vietnam and across South East Asia.

“Over the past 30 years, we have been involved in major infrastructure and development projects in Vietnam which have not only been significant feats of engineering, they have contributed to improving the living circumstances for many people,” said Royal HaskoningDHV Chairman Mr Erik Oostwegel.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Royal HaskoningDHV presented scholarships to 15 students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport to support them in their goal to secure a career in engineering.

Mr Erik Oostwegel added: “We are very proud to contribute to the aspirations of these students and with that to the future of Vietnam. Our commitment to Enhancing Society Together extends to the dreams young students have, to our client’s business objectives and into every society within which we operate.”

Work currently in progress by Royal HaskoningDHV in Vietnam includes:
Three water supply projects to provide safe drinking water to half a million people in the provinces of Ben Tre, Hau Giang and Ba Ria Vung Tau on behalf of various rural water supply companies. The projects are financed by the Vietnamese and Dutch governments.
A new high-quality garment manufacturing facility in Vinh Phuc on behalf of TAL Group. The building is being submitted for LEED Gold sustainable certification.

Design and on-site construction supervision of the marine facilities for a petrochemical complex in Thanh Hoa province on behalf of Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Ltd. The site supervision includes 1.5km breakwater, 4 jetties and 2 berths, the dredging of the harbour basin and 6.2km access channel. The products of this refinery will be both for the domestic market and for export.
