MAN to Power Canada's Joint Support Ships

Canadian shipbuilder Seaspan Shipyards announced Tuesday it has awarded MAN Energy Solutions Canada of Vancouver, BC, a contract valued at $55 million ($41.2 million US) to provide propulsion and power generation components for Canada’s new Joint Support Ships (JSS).The contract was announced today but was awarded and signed late last year, a Seaspan Shipyards spokesperson confirmed to MarineLink.MAN will provide two MAN 12V32/44CR (Common Rail) propulsion engines equipped with environmental protection SCR technology…

Seaspan Partners with Lockheed Martin

Seaspan Shipyards (Seaspan) has awarded Ottawa-based Lockheed Martin Canada (Lockheed Martin), a contract for work on Canada’s new Joint Support Ships (JSS).At $118M, this is the largest contract package that Seaspan will award for work on the JSS, said a press release.Lockheed Martin is one of several major systems integrators that Seaspan is working with in order to meet its commitments under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).Seaspan and Lockheed Martin have an established relationship as partners on several programs for the Royal Canadian Navy and, more recently, the Royal New Zealand Navy, in maintaining and upgrading vital military assets.Lockheed Martin will provide a state of the art Command Management System based around the CMS 330 for the JSS.

Cummings on Coast Guard Authorization Bill

Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, was pleased with the passage of H.Res. 1665, concurring in Senate amendments to H.R. 3619, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010. The bill authorizes slightly more than $10b in annual funding for the United States Coast Guard, and will make several major changes to the service. Cummings chaired four hearings on the Deepwater acquisition program and participated in multiple hearings of the full Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to consider Coast Guard acquisitions. Coast Guard procurement was heavily examined, including circumstances leading to initial failures in Deepwater procurements.

Hatteland Increases Capacity

Hatteland Display has introduced an advanced line manufacturing facility that greatly increases its production capacity at its Nedre Vats, Norway facility. Hatteland Display was purchased by Ferd Private Equity Fund II (FPEF II) on 27th March 2007 and the company is now coming to the end of an initial '100 Days Process'. The new manufacturing capacity is part of this initial consultation and is a sign of the investment that the new owners of Hatteland Display are willing to make to ensure that the company retains its position as the dominant supplier of marine displays and panel computers to systems integrators and shipyards.
