Research Vessel Delivered to Orca Maritime

Washington-based boat builder Armstrong Marine said it has delivered a new 42’ x 16’ catamaran research vessel, Benthic Cat, to Orca Maritime, Inc. following launch and sea trials in Port Angeles Harbor. Cheoy Lee Shipyards Delivers Tug Duo

Florida-based Cheoy Lee Shipyards have delivered two more Z-Tech tugs, PSA Polaris and PSA Capella, to PSA Marine, Singapore. This time was the Z-Tech 5000 version with newly re-styled deckhouse and wheelhouse in addition to its already unique appearance. Rob Allan was presented with the Meritorious Achievement Award as one of the President’s Awards conferred by Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) on October 20, 2017 at their Annual Award Gala held in Whistler, BC. This award is given annually to a member of the Association who has achieved distinction and outstanding goals associated with his/her profession. Allan has over 45 years of experience in the design of commercial workboats of all types, but especially high-performance tugboats for tanker escort and offshore terminal operations.

Konecranes Agilon Wins Quality Innovation Award

Konecranes’ Agilon material management solution has won the Quality Innovation award in the Large companies series in The Quality Innovation Award of the Year competition, arranged by Laatukeskus Excellence Finland. Agilon brings industrial internet to material logistics and enables a new flexible way to manage material and information flow. Introduced in 2013, Agilon is an innovative materials inventory and management system that rapidly and automatically stores, picks, and replenishes items weighing up to 25 kg, using a robot to handle component transfers. Wärtsilä Propulsion Equipment for 2 Fishing Vessels

Two new 78 metre purser/trawler fishing vessels being designed and built at Karstensen Shipyard in Denmark will feature Wärtsilä's main propulsion and control equipment. The ships have been contracted by Lunar Fishing, the Scotland based fishing company and will operate in the North Sea. The Wärtsilä order was placed in September 2014. For each vessel, Wärtsilä's scope of supply includes a 9 cylinder in-line Wärtsilä 32 engine, a 2-speed gear with power take-off function (PTO), a Wärtsilä Controllable Pitch propeller 4E1095 complete with shaft line, seals & bearings, stern tube, High Performance nozzle (HP-Nozzle) etc and the new Wärtsilä Protouch propulsion control system. The equipment for the first vessel will be delivered at the end of 2015, and for the second vessel in summer 2016.

ABB Reports $180 Million from Cruise Builders in 2013

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, won orders worth $180 million in 2013 to deliver complete electrical power plants and propulsion systems for six new cruise liners that include its latest-generation Azipod XO units. The orders make 2013 the best-ever year for ABB in cruise liners with the Azipod system. The six ships include two for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), two for Royal Caribbean International and one each for Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Lines, all leading brands in the cruise market. The orders were booked over the course of the year, with about $30 million in the first quarter, about $90 million in the second, about $30 million in the third, and the remaining $30 million in the fourth.

ABB wins the awsrd for product design of the Azimutn lever that steers its Azipod XO marine propulsion unit. An international panel of 37 experts assessed products submitted by more than 1,800 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries, evaluating the degree of innovation, functionality, quality, ergonomics, durability and ecological compatibility. “The new lever design was conceived in order to improve usability and ergonomics and thereby enhance safety levels,” said Heikki Soljama, head of ABB’s Marine and Cranes business.

Hatteland Marine Computer Wins Red Dot

Hatteland Display’s HT C01 computer has received a Red Dot Award and an honorable mention distinction in the Red Dot Awards: Product Design 2009. These annual awards are given to products from all industry sectors that meet high levels of design excellence, as determined by an expert panel of judges made up of design professionals.
