Guzmán Re-elected Harbor Commission President, Long Beach Port
Harbor Commission President Lori Ann Guzmán was re-elected Monday evening to serve a second one-year term leading the board that oversees the Port of Long Beach, the nation’s second-busiest seaport. The five-member Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners also selected Lou Anne Bynum as Vice President and Tracy Egoscue as Secretary, continuing in the roles they have served in for the past 12 months. Each July, the Commission selects from its own members the President and the other Board officers for one-year terms. Guzmán, who is the Director of Finance for the City of Huntington Beach, was appointed to the Harbor Commission in 2013 by then-Mayor Bob Foster. The Commission President chairs Board meetings and represents the Port to the public.
Commission Appointments at Long Beach Port
The Long Beach City Council on Tuesday confirmed the appointments of Long Beach City College executive Lou Anne Bynum and former City Councilman Doug Drummond to second terms on the Board of Harbor Commissioners. Mayor Robert Garcia announced the reappointments last month. Both Bynum, the Harbor Board Vice President, and Drummond, a former Board President, were originally appointed by Garcia’s predecessor, Mayor Bob Foster. “These commissioners have done outstanding jobs helping to lead the Harbor Department,” Garcia said. “Their commitment to continuing public service will provide stability and consistency to the decisions governing Long Beach’s most important economic engine.
Electric Rates Reduced at Port of Long Beach
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved reduced electric rates at the Port of Long Beach for the next 24 years and a program for Southern California Edison to install major electric infrastructure at no cost to the port or its tenants, so that the Port and its tenants can proceed with critical electrification and environmental improvement projects. Former CFO Appointed Long Beach Harbor Commissioner
The Long Beach City Council voted unanimously to confirm Mayor Bob Foster’s appointment of the City’s former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Lori Ann Farrell to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the City’s Harbor Department. Farrell, a 14-year resident of Long Beach, will fill one of two vacancies on the five-member Harbor Commission. The commissioners are appointed by the mayor to a maximum of two six-year terms and are compensated $100 per board meeting.

Hearing on Additional Air Pollution Controls for Large Ships
On August 9, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works conducted a field hearing in San Pedro entitled Hearing to Examine Port Pollution and the Need for Additional Controls on Large Ships.
