Acceptance of LOF in U.S. Waters

There is growing acceptance of Lloyd’s Open Form as the optimum contract for response to serious marine emergencies in US waters according to SMIT Salvage. A number of cases over the past few years have provided demonstration of the efficacy of LOF when responding to vessels with a potential to cause significant environmental damage. The effectiveness of the LOF system relates to the fact that the contract, once agreed, gives a set of very clear responsibilities to the salvor.

Helix Awarded Three-Year Vessel Contract

Helix Energy Solutions announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Canyon Offshore, Inc. has been awarded a $160m, three-year contract by an E & P operator in South East Asia, to provide the M/V Olympic Canyon DP II multipurpose vessel for offshore inspection, repair and maintenance operations. The Olympic Canyon is scheduled to commence work in April 2008 and will support client's numerous offshore projects. The vessel will be outfitted with two deepwater 150 hp Triton XLS work class ROV systems, a variety of intervention tooling and support equipment, and a 140 mT active heave compensated crane. Canyon has recently grown its fleet of chartered vessels with the addition of two new Norwegian built vessels the M/V Olympic Canyon and sister ship M/V Olympic Triton.

Northern Canyon Completes Gunnison Spar Contract

In November, Canyon Offshore Inc., a subsidiary of Cal Dive International mobilized the M/V Northern Canyon with two 2,500-m rated Triton XLS systems on board, to support the Gunnison Spar installation for Kerr McGee. Canyon operated as a subcontractor to Cal Dive International, Inc. The vessel has since completed a number of SPAR installation tasks, including survey array installation, flowline and riser installation support, mooring hook up support, and specific ROV intervention tasks relating to the SPAR completion. The vessel performed well in rough, winter conditions, and all assigned tasks were completed on schedule. The Northern Canyon is a 280-foot (85m) DP II vessel with accommodations for 58 personnel…

Canyon Offshore Takes Delivery of Quest 3

Canyon Offshore has taken delivery of its third Quest electric work class ROV system. The Quest, depth rated to 3,050 msw, incorporates many new features and technology not previously found in work class ROVs. Increased efficiency, lower operating costs and greater reliability, have contributed to the success of these new systems. This environmentally friendly ROV can perform tasks for a wide range of functions, including offshore oil exploration and production support, salvage, mapping, remote tool deployment and object recovery. As the launch customer for the Quest, Canyon received the first two systems last year, and both have been in high demand ever since.

Trico Marine Takes Delivery on New Platform Supply Vessel

Trico Marine Services, Inc., has taken delivery on the Northern Canyon, a 279-ft. UT 745 design platform supply vessel (PSV). The state-of-the-art vessel is designed to serve deepwater markets worldwide. Built in Norway, the Northern Canyon is equipped with a DP2 (dynamic positioning) system and is among the largest, most technologically advanced PSVs available in the industry. The vessel, which will be deployed initially in the North Sea, is quipped as a remotely operated vehicle vessel to perform subsea construction work globally. It has been awarded a three-year contract by Canyon-Offshore, Inc. Trico is scheduled to take delivery of a second 279-ft. PSV in September 2002. It also expects to take delivery of three new generation 155-ft.

Canyon Mobilizes Advanced Jet-Trenching Spreads

Canyon Offshore's North Sea region is currently operating two advanced jet-trenching spreads in Norwegian and Faroes/Iceland waters. Canyon Offshore's new Perry Slingsby Systems T750 Super Trencher has recently mobilized and successfully completed trials in the North Sea offshore Middlesborough. The trials were conducted onboard the Canyon operated UT 745 - ROVSV Northern Canyon. This spread is currently trenching a 12" Gas Injection flowline in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. Additionally, Canyon Offshore is undertaking PLGR and PLIB projects on a telecom cable between the Faroes Islands and Iceland. Canyon's T500 trencher is being operated onboard the recently delivered UT755 Highland Eagle for the Route Clearance/Burial Assessment and Post Lay Burial tasks.

Canyon Offshore Enters Into North Sea Trenching Agreement

Canyon Offshore has recently signed a three-year Frame Agreement with Coflexip Stena Offshore Norge AS (CSONOR) to provide trenching services supporting CSONOR’s installation activities in Norway. The agreement is also open to all Technip-Coflexip entities worldwide. The primary equipment engaged under this agreement will be Canyon’s new Triton 750 Trencher, currently being manufactured by Perry Slingsby Systems Ltd. at their Kirbymoorside facility in the United Kingdom. The system develops 750 horsepower, weighs in at 23 metric tons and is capable of producing 3-meter trench depths and operating in soil strengths up to 125 kPa. The system will be delivered to Canyon in May 2003 and will undertake extensive sea trials in June.
