GL Names New SVP Global Sales

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has appointed Mr Christian Freiherr von Oldershausen to the newly created position of Senior Vice President Global Sales. In his new position, Mr von Oldershausen will be responsible for enhancing global sales, working closely together with GL’s regional and area management. The appointment of Mr von Oldershausen reflects GL’s ambition to further sharpen its customer focus and continue to expand its global activities. Mr von Oldershausen will be based in GL’s Head Office in Hamburg and begins in his new role on 1 January 2012.

Ardmore Expands Fleet, Newbuild And Charters

Ardmore Shipping Ltd, the specialist tanker company, today announced that it has taken over the contracts for two newbuild vessels from Hellespont Group and, in a separate deal, has agreed to charter in two vessels from Hellespont. Ardmore, based in Cork, Ireland, has agreed to take over the newbuild contracts on two 17,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) IMO II chemical tankers from Hellespont. The two as-yet unnamed vessels are currently being built by Sekwang Shipbuilding in South Korea and delivery is expected in April and July 2012 respectively.

Hellespont Opts for Navig8 Pool

Hamburg-based Hellespont Group has agreed with Navig8 Chemicals to enter four IMO2 tankers into the Brizo8 Pool. The ships in question are the Hellespont Centurion, Hellespont Challenger, Hellespont Charger and Hellespont Chieftain. All are 17,000dwt, built in 2009 and 2010 and are managed by Hamburg-based Hellespont Ship Management GmbH & Co KG. Hellespont has also time chartered two 2010-built 17,000dwt IMO2 tankers, Hellespont Commander and Hellespont Crusader, for one/option one year to Ardmore Shipping Ltd of Ireland.

Sanko and Hellespont Join Offshore Forces

The Sanko Steamship Co Ltd and Hellespont Group have entered into a joint venture for manning and/or shipmanagement services to Sanko’s and Hellespont’s offshore fleets through their Singapore subsidiaries. The Singapore-based joint venture company, Sanko-Hellespont Offshore Management Pte Ltd, owned by Sanko Ship Management (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Hellespont Singapore Pte Ltd on an equal partnership basis, started operations on 7 March, 2011, and is led by Captain Andrew Lidgard of Hellespont, as CEO and Mr Yasushi Hashimoto of Sanko, as Chairman.

Hellespont Strengthens German Base

The Hellespont Group strengthened its global base in Hamburg, Germany, by buying out the two minority partners in its Hamburg-based shipmanagement company and reshaping its corporate organization. The 25 percent each minority interests held by HCI Capital AG and Peter Doehle Schiffahrts KG in Hellespont Hammonia GmbH & Co KG have been bought out. Hellespont Hammonia has been renamed Hellespont Ship Management GmbH & Co KG, and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hellespont group parent company, which has been renamed Hellespont Deutschland GmbH.

Hellespont Extends PSV Fleet

The Hamburg-based Hellespont group has extended its fleet of platform supply vessels with the delivery of the 3,250 dwt Hellespont Dione. Built at Drydocks World, Batam, the vessel is the fifth sister ship to join the Hellespont offshore fleet. The previous four vessels were all built in Cochin, India. Phrixos Papachristidis, Hellespont group CEO, said, “These five vessels are a clear statement of our intention to expand in the offshore field. These versatile vessels are all on long term charter for seven years.

Hellespont Expands into Singapore

The Hamburg-based Hellespont group has expanded its operations by opening a new company in Singapore. Hellespont Singapore Pte Ltd is responsible for developing relationships with key offshore charterers in Singapore, sourcing crews for the Hellespont-managed PSV fleet and establishing Hellespont as operators of offshore vessels in Singapore. Phrixos Papachristidis, Managing Director of Hellespont AG & Co KG, the parent company of the German-based Hellespont ship management and marine services group, said, “We have a growing fleet of offshore vessels and we wanted to place the management and operation close to key charterers. Hellespont Appoints Papachristidis-Bove

Alexander Papachristidis-Bove has been appointed Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Hellespont Steamship Corp, the Piraeus-based ship management and marine services company, with effect from October 1, 2009. He replaces Dr. Mike Kennedy, who assumes the role of Managing Director of Hellespont Consultants Corp and remains responsible for the company’s newbuilding programme. Hellespont Announces Management Changes

The Hellespont Group has promoted Spyros Vlassopoulos, formerly managing director of Hellespont Hammonia GmbH & Co to be Director responsible for Chartering and Sale & Purchase at 's Piraeus-based chartering division. Captain Matthias Imrecke has been appointed to take over as Managing Director of Hellespont's Hamburg-based fleet management and safety division. Captain Imrecke has long experience in shipping both at sea and ashore with a number of managerial positions held in ,, , and the UAE.

Hellespont Names First of Four Double-Hull Ulccs

Piraeus-based Hellespont Shipping Corporation will name the first of its series of four unique double-hull ulccs at a ceremony in Dubai on April 3, 2002. The 442,000 dwt vessel will be named Hellespont Alhambra. Basil Papachristidis, chairman of the Hellespont Group, says, "We are proud to set new standards with these ships. The Hellespont Alhambra is the largest double hull tanker ever built. She sets new benchmarks for safety, longevity, commercial flexibility and ease of maintenance. The series will continue with the Hellespont Metropolis, to be delivered in April, and two sister ships, the Hellespont Fairfax and the Hellespont Tara, both to be delivered in the second half of 2002.

Cornering the ULCC Niche

For an independent tanker owner to undertake a newbuild fleet development program amounting to 3-million tons of crude oil carrier capacity in itself demonstrates a high degree of business verve. But to emphatically put one's own stamp on the design, construction and equipping of such tonnage is an added expression of will, given the production-driven tendency in the industry towards shipyard-orientated and class-minimum specifications. Vessels: ULCC: Hellespont Alhambra Proves Efficient

Hellespont Alhambra is the first of the series of four new ultra-high spec double hull ULCCs delivered to Piraeus, Greece-based Hellespont Group. At the beginning of February, the 442,000-dwt ship immediately demonstrated its flexibility and economy of scale, delivering a full cargo of Middle East crude to Rotterdam, following a swift voyage from the Middle East Gulf to Europe via the Suez Canal.
