Coatings Giant Hempel Buys Wattyl Australia and New Zealand

Coatings manufacturer Hempel has completed the acquisition of Wattyl Australia and New Zealand, increasing its footprint in Australia and New Zealand.On 18 February 2021, Hempel A/S signed an agreement to acquire leading paint and coatings manufacturer Wattyl Australia and New Zealand from The Sherwin-Williams Company, the world’s largest paint and coatings company and headquartered in the United States.Hempel received formal customary approval from the relevant authorities in Australia and New Zealand and the acquisition was closed on 31 March.

Cottrell Koins Hempel as Group VP for N. America

Hempel Invests in Fire Protection Coatings R&D

Coatings manufacturer Hempel announced that it is investing in a new research and development center focused solely on passive fire protection coatings. Located just outside Barcelona in Spain, the center is due to open toward the end of 2018. Passive fire protection (PFP) coatings are increasingly important in the construction and oil and gas industries. Applied to structural steel in large buildings and industrial oil and gas installations, the coatings expand to form an insulating layer of carbon char when exposed to high temperatures.

Hempel Coatings for Lemissoler Newbuilds

Global shipmanagement company, Lemissoler Navigation, via its affiliated and managed company Frontmarine Co. Ltd, has coated four of its eight newbuild 58,500 dwt supramax bulk carriers with Hempel’s Dynamic antifouling product, and based on its performance, is planning to coat the remaining four vessels with the same product. As part of an environmental efficiency drive, Lemissoler has adopted a unique hull design for the new vessels, fitted them with fuel-efficient propellers and coated the undersides with Dynamic. According to the design specification, fuel consumption was calculated at 24.7 metric tons per day at 14.2 knots in ballast condition. Thanks to the eco-innovations, these vessels in sea trials are achieving a fuel consumption of 23 metric tons.

Andersen will be CEO of Hempel

Hempel A/S announced that CEO Pierre-Yves Jullien will be succeeded by Henrik Andersen, Group COO of ISS A/S, by March 1st 2016. Henrik Andersen has been with ISS A/S since 2000, since 2011 as Member of the Executive Board, first as Group CFO and from 2013 Group COO, EMEA and following a recent change been appointed in his current position as global Group COO. Prior to returning to Copenhagen in 2011, Henrik spent 7 years in the UK starting as CFO and from 2008 to 2011 as CEO for ISS UK and its 43,000 employees. During his tenure, ISS UK grew from GBP 500m to GBP 925m in turnover and more than doubled earnings. Hempel Celebrates 100 Years

Hempel kicked off the group’s centenary celebrations and invited customers from Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Romania to a party in Athens’ Acropolis Museum on Saturday, May 9. Hempel has had a permanent presence in Greece since 1952 as Hempel Hellas General Manager, Keld Laursen explained, “For 63 out of the 100 years we have had our feet on the ground in Piraeus and Athens and we are very proud of this. Hempel Finalizes Acquisition of Jones-Blair Company

Global coatings producer Hempel announced today that it has closed its previously announced acquisition of Jones-Blair Company, a North American protective and waterproofing market supplier. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Danish-based Hempel is seeking to strengthen its presence in North America through organic growth and acquisitions, the company said. The acquisition of Jones-Blair Company, located in Dallas, Texas, supports this objective by accelerating Hempel’s growth in the region. We’re very pleased that we have closed this transaction.

Hempel Opens its First Factory in Africa

Hempel has opened its first factory in Africa, its 26th worldwide, to manufacture coatings for the marine as well as decorative and protective industries to serve customers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Further boosting its growth plans, Hempel acquired its South African toll manufacturer, The Coatings Manufacturing Company (TCMC). Since 2011, Hempel South Africa has partnered with TCMC, which is located close to Johannesburg, to better serve customers in the region; the partnership covered the HEMPATEX and HEMPALIN range of products.

Hempel to Acquire Jones-Blair Company

Danish-based coating supplier Hempel announced a binding agreement today to acquire Jones-Blair Company. The transaction is expected to close in early March 2015, subject to regulatory approval. Jones-Blair Company, an industrial coating supplier located in Dallas, Texas, serves both oil and gas and construction markets. Hempel's Group President and CEO Pierre-Yves Jullien credited the pending acquisition with helping Hempel move toward its goal of becoming one of the ten largest coatings suppliers by the end of 2015.

Hempel Acquires Schaepman

Hempel has acquired Schaepman’s Lakfabrieken B.V, a Dutch supplier of specialized industrial, protective and decorative coatings. The acquisition is part of Hempel’s five-year growth strategy. Terms of the sale are undisclosed. According to Hempel , the acquisition will enable the company to benefit from Schaepman's expertise in protective coatings. Addtionally, existing Schaepman customers will gain access to Hempel's range of products and global support. Hempel's global presence will also ensure Schaepman's specialist products are available to a wider customer base. New Antifouling Products from Hempel

Building on the GLOBIC and DYNAMIC range of antifouling systems, marine coatings manufacturer Hempel launched two new antifouling products for drydockings and newbuildings. According to Hempel, the new antifoulings aim to deliver fuel savings up to 3% and provide added flexibility to shipowners and yards. GLOBIC 8000 is a new hydrolysing self-polishing antifouling product that fits between the existing GLOBIC 6000 and GLOBIC 9000 antifouling systems. It builds on GLOBIC technology and incorporates Hempel’s nano acrylate technology which delivers a fine polishing control mechanism to bring the integral biocides to the surface at a stable rate ensuring a clean hull.

Hempel Says 2013 Brought Record Profits

The Hempel Group announced it delivered a record net profit in 2013, placing it in a strong position to achieve its targets through a combination of organic and external growth. Hempel Group reported that its revenues grew by 15% in 2012, despite facing a challenging world market, and the Group is still on track to achieve its long-term goals. The Hempel Group delivered an all-time high revenue of EUR 1,242 million in 2012. EBITDA reached a record high of EUR 126 million, an increase of 21 million compared to 2011. Hempel Enjoys Growth in a Turbulent Market

Driven by growth through a strategic acquisition in the decorative coatings market, Hempel’s revenue grew by 21 per cent in 2011, passing the EUR one billion milestone for the first time. The Hempel Group delivered an operating profit of EUR 72 million in 2011, and a record turnover of EUR 1,077 million. Increasing raw material prices had an impact on Group profitability. Hempel’s 2011 results: Group revenues rose by 21 per cent, from EUR 889 million to EUR 1,077 million. EBITDA of EUR 105 million was the second highest in the Group’s history. Leading industrial and marine coatings supplier Hempel is building a strong presence in the Indian subcontinent Hempel, one of the world’s leading industrial and marine paint suppliers, is expanding its operations in the Indian subcontinent. Raw Material Inflation, Shortages Force Hempel to Increase Prices

Leading protective coatings supplier Hempel announces general product price increases. These price changes are driven by raw materials suppliers increasing prices as well as shortages of some raw materials and rising energy costs. Hempel reported that is making as many cost-saving measures as possible, but in order to continue to supply the same quality products and service to its customers in these tough financial times, the company must increase its product prices. In the past year, the average price of raw materials used in coating manufacturing has increased significantly – anywhere from 10 to 60 per cent for key raw materials, such as epoxy, titanium dioxide, industrial metals.

Hempel A/S Acquires Hempel-Hai Hong

Hempel A/S has reached an agreement to acquire Hempel-Hai Hong in China, with completion expected to take place on 5 January 2009. This latest acquisition means that Hempel A/S will have invested nearly DKK one billion in 2008, in line with its strategy for global growth, OneHempel – Everywhere. Increasing its share in Hempel-Hai Hong from 36 percent to 100 percent will give Hempel A/S full control of its activities in China. Hempel-Hai Hong has a strong brand identity and is already responsible for 25 percent of Hempel A/S’s global turnover, making it one of the leading companies in the Hempel Group. Hempel-Hai Hong is the latest in a series of acquisitions following the implementation of the Hempel Group’s global strategy for growth, One Hempel – Everywhere.
