Bahri Charters Methanol-fueled Tanker Pair

Bahri business unit Bahri Chemicals will charter two newbuild methanol-powered tankers under a five-year agreement with methanol producer Proman. The vessels, which were officially named during a ceremony hosted at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China in November 2023 where both ships were built, will be deployed to transport various products globally.The vessels are the final two of an initial six-strong methanol-fueled tanker fleet commissioned through the partnership between Proman and Stena Bulk.

DNV Awards AiP to HD KSOE’s Hydrogen System for LH2 Carrier

DNV has awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) and its subsidiaries HD Hyundai Heavy Industry (HD HHI) and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) for their new hydrogen system.HD KSOE aims to complete the development of the hydrogen carrier technology that enables large-capacity hydrogen transportation and storage by around 2030.HD KSOE's new system utilizes boil-off gas from hydrogen transport for a hybrid propulsion system, integrating hydrogen dual-fuel engines and fuel cells.

HMD Gets LR AIP for Dual-fuel 45,000cbm LPG Carrier

Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) announced it has granted approval in principle (AIP) to South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) for its new 45,000cbm liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier design, with availability to be ordered with ammonia dual-fueled propulsion. The dual fuel system equipped on HMD’s LPG carrier allows operators and owners to prioritize their environmental, societal and governance (ESG) strategies for their fleets and align with the IMO’s revised goal of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

Maersk Takes Delivery of World's First Methanol-fueled Container Feeder

Maersk has taken delivery of the world’s first container feeder to be fueled by methanol.The 2,100 TEU vessel was built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Heavy Industries and features dual fuel main and auxiliary engines from MAN Energy Solutions that are able to operate on cleaner-burning methanol.The ABS-classed vessel, HMD Hull #4168, is embarking on its maiden voyage from Ulsan to Copenhagen for a naming ceremony in September, when the ships is expected to take the name Laura Maersk.

The Korean Register (KR) awarded approval in principal (AIP) to two green ammonia-fueled ships at KR’s Seoul branch office on December 15, 2021. One of the ships is a 60,000m3 ammonia-fueled ammonia carrier and the other is a 38,000m3 ammonia carrier/bunkering ship, developed by Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE), Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).The AIP is the first result from the ‘Green Ammonia Marine Transport and Bunkering Consortium’ which was launched in May 2021.

DNV granted an Approval in Principle (AIP) to Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) for a new design of intra-Europe 1,900 TEU feeder containerships. The AIP is the result of a joint development project between DNV and HMD to develop an efficient and reliable feeder vessel design to respond to the European shortsea container market. The Korean Register (KR) has awarded Approval In Principle (AIP) for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier with a prismatic IMO type-B tank built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD). The ship is a small to medium-sized LNG carrier with a B-type cargo tank developed as a result of a technical collaboration project between KR and HMD, which began in February 2020.The type-B tank is usually applied to the fuel tanks of large sized container ships or bulk carriers but HMD has developed the technology to apply it to small and medium-sized LNG carriers of 30,000 cubic meter capacity.

Bahri Takes First of Four New Bulk Carriers

Saudi Arabian ship owner Bahri said it has taken delivery of the new Kamsarmax bulk carrier Sara, built by Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding (HVS), a subsidiary of Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. (HMD).The 81,000 dwt vessel is the first in a series of four ordered by Bahri Dry Bulk from South Korea’s HMD in August 2017. The three remaining vessels are all scheduled to be delivered this year.The new ship will transport basic grains, such as wheat, barley, corn and other dry-bulk cargoes, for import into Saudi Arabia.The 229-meter newbuild increases the Bahri’s fleet of dry-bulk carriers to six ships.
