Gulf of Mexico Oil Production on the Rise

Because of the long timelines associated with Gulf of Mexico (GOM) projects, the recent downturn in oil prices is expected to have minimal direct impact on GOM crude oil production through 2016. EIA projects GOM production to reach 1.52 million barrels per day (bbl/d) in 2015 and 1.61 million bbl/d in 2016, or about 16% and 17% of total U.S. crude oil production in those two years, respectively. The forecasted production growth is driven both by new projects and the redevelopment and expansion of older producing fields.

Deepwater Market Surge Spurs Ensco Drillship Order

UK-based Ensco has ordered an additional advanced-capability DP3 ultra-deepwater drillship based on the Samsung GF12000 hull design. The vessel, ENSCO DS-10, will be the eighth Samsung DP3 drillship in the Ensco fleet, further extending the benefits of Ensco’s fleet standardization strategy. It will be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd. (SHI) shipyard in South Korea, with delivery scheduled for the third quarter of 2015. The agreement includes an option for an additional drillship of the same design. Ensco Chairman, President and CEO Dan Rabun said, “We continue to see very strong demand for rigs in existing deepwater markets, along with growing demand from emerging exploration areas.

Ultra-Deepwater Drillship Order for Korean Yard

QGOG Constellation S.A. exercise a Samsung Heavy Indurstries contract option for an advanced capability DP3 drillship. This will be the third drillship ordered from SHI in South Korea and is scheduled to be delivered in December 2014. The unit will have advanced capabilities to meet the requirements of ultra-deepwater drilling in water depths of up to 12,000 feet and a total vertical drilling depth of 40,000 feet, based on the proprietary Samsung 12000 hull. This drillship will have the latest dynamic positioning capabilities and a complete dual activity hoisting system with enhanced client and third-party facilities. It maximizes the station-keeping capability during drilling operations while using a larger engine & thruster capacity and fully redundant system.

Korean Shipyard Wins Ultra-deepwater Drillship Contract

Ensco plc has has ordered a new advanced-capability, ultra-deepwater drillship to be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd. (SHI) Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. The vessel, ENSCO DS-8, will be the sixth Samsung DP3 drillship in the Ensco fleet, extending the benefits of Ensco’s fleet standardization strategy. It is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2014. Including commissioning, systems integration testing, project management and spares, the construction cost is expected to be approximately $645 million. FMC Wins $135m BG Norge Deal

FMC Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: FTI) won a contract by BG Norge, a subsidiary of BG Group, for the manufacture and supply of subsea production equipment to support the Knarr oil and gas field. The contract has a value of approximately $135 million in revenue to FMC Technologies. The Knarr field, formerly known as Jordbaer, is located in Norwegian block 34/3 of the North Sea in water depths of approximately 1,320 feet (400 meters). FMC's scope of supply includes three each of subsea production trees and water injection trees.

Noble Orders Drillship Pair; $1.2B Total

Noble Corporation (NYSE: NE) today announced that a subsidiary has signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. ("HHI") for the construction of two ultra-deepwater drillships, increasing the Company's number of floating drilling units to 26, 14 of which are dynamically positioned. The new ultra-deepwater drillships, to be named at a later date, will be constructed on a fixed price basis at HHI's shipyard in Ulsan, Korea, with expected deliveries from the shipyard in the second and fourth quarters of 2013, respectively. Operations are expected to commence 90-120 days after delivery following mobilization and acceptance testing.

Pride International. to Construct More Deepwater Drillships

Pride International, Inc. (NYSE: PDE) announced that the company has reached agreement with Samsung Heavy Industries, Ltd. (SHI) for the construction of a fifth ultra-deepwater drillship, further expanding the company's ultra-deepwater fleet size and drilling capabilities. FMC $520M Order for Total's CLOV Development

FMC Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: FTI) announced it has signed an agreement with Total Exploration & Production Angola for the manufacture and supply of subsea production equipment for the CLOV development project. The award has a value of approximately $520m in revenue to FMC Technologies. FMC's scope of supply includes the manufacture of 36 subsea trees, wellheads and controls. The company will also supply eight manifolds, two workover systems and associated tooling and equipment. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2012. The deepwater CLOV development project consists of the Cravo, Lirio, Orquidea and Violeta discoveries, located in approximately 4,500 feet (1,370 meters) of water in Block 17 offshore Angola.

Positive Outlook for Global Subsea Development, Deepwater Strengthening

There are 2,511 identified pending, probable and possible subsea production wells forecast (base case) worldwide over the next six years. Some 18 percent of these subsea completions will be installed in North America, 30 percent in Africa/Mediterranean, eight percent in Asia-Pacific, 26 percent in the North Sea and 18 percent in Brazil. These subsea projects are in various development stages, including: 23 percent at the pending/construction stage, 11 percent bidding, 9 percent in detailed engineering, 16 percent at the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage, 16 percent of the wells probable and 26 percent possible indicating possible development in the future.

Husky Energy Awards $250 M Contract For White Rose

Husky Energy Inc. has awarded a $250 million contract for the subsea production system for the White Rose oil field project, located 217 miles off the east coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. The contract covers the design, supply and installation of the subsea system for the White Rose project. Husky plans to use a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel to develop the offshore field. The subsea production system includes a total of 42 kilometres of flexible risers, flowlines and umbilicals, five subsea manifolds, up to 21 Christmas trees and wellheads distributed across three Glory Hole sites. Glory Holes are depressions in the ocean floor excavated to provide protection for the subsea production equipment.

SEA TECHNOLOGY:Successfull AUV operation Ormen Lange

Norsk Hydro ASA contracted Stolt Offshore to perform AUV seabed charting in the Storegga slide August/September 2002. NUI AS with the AUV NUI Explorer was subcontracted by Stolt Offshore to perform the AUV services. Pushing the exploration and production of oil and gas into ultra-deep water is facing a significant challenge of installing subsea production equipment and transport pipelines in rough and complex seabed terrain. The pipeline systems to bring the oil and gas ashore often have to cross steep escarpments leading to shallower continental shelves. As a result detailed knowledge about seabed conditions becomes a key factor affecting the engineering and construction activities. Identification of the most optimal site and pipeline route means significant lower construction cost.
