Maersk Orders Rolls-Royce’s New Anchor Recovery Frames

Maersk Supply Service has exercised an option to add Rolls-Royce’s new Anchor Recovery Frames (ARF) to the supply contract awarded in December for deck machinery for six anchor handler vessels under construction at Norway’s Kleven Verft AS. Global maritime organizations have issued health guidance on the risks posed to ships’ crews calling in countries affected by the Ebola virus. International ship supplier, Hutton’s Group, is responding to requests for information and assistance from its maritime customers by highlighting the range of medical protective equipment available for use in pandemic situations. Hutton's Group Strengthens Aberdeen Ship Service Team

Leading ship supplier Hutton’s Group says it has strengthened its Aberdeen logistics team with the appointment of a new Branch Manager, Kirstene Wilson, who starts work at the firm’s Sinclair Road depot, having completed a week’s induction training at Hutton’s head office in Hull. Hutton’s Managing Director Alex Taylor said: “I am pleased to welcome Kirstene to the Hutton’s Group and believe her knowledge of the Aberdeen shipping sector will be a great asset to our busy branch, which specialises particularly in supplying the growing offshore industry.” The Company adds that Ms Wilson brings to her new role years of experience in both the retail, wholesale and logistics sectors, having worked previously for Makro and Strachan’s.

Jaccar to Launch Bourbon Buyout on May 20

Jaccar Holdings, the main shareholder of Bourbon, said on Monday it will launch an offer to buy the French ship supplier on May 20. Bourbon said in March that the offer, which is valid until June 23, would be conditional upon Jaccar securing 50.1 percent of the capital, as well as bank financing. It said at that time that the proposed bid was 24 euros per share. Bourbon shares closed at 23.83 euros on Friday. Bottled Water Sales to Shippers on the Rise

Hutton’s Group, a ship supplier in the U.K., reported sales of bottled water are up 30% on last year’s figures. The Hull-based supplier to the international shipping industry said it sold almost 40,000 large bottles of still water and nearly 20,000 small bottles this January alone, with sales of sparkling water (particularly popular with eastern European customers) growing too. Strachans Launches Alternative to Refrigerated Containers

Strachans, a specialist distributor of food and chandlery supplies to the offshore and marine industry, announced the pilot of a new container capable of maintaining product integrity for up to four days. The Strachans icebox uses a eutectic system, whereby eutectic beams full of gel are connected to a power supply that charges them down to temperatures far lower than the product prior to leaving the ship supplier’s warehouse. The eutectic beams release their energy over a long period of time in turn maintaining the integrity of the product. Twelve units have been in and performed without incident in the North Sea since October 2012.

Hutton's Moves to New Headquarters

Hutton's, a UK-based ship supplier, has moved into a large new head office and warehouse facility to accommodate the company's growing business. Located in Witty Street, Hull, the new double-sized unit is called Dianthus House and has access straight onto the A63 and national motorway network, along with being strategically located for access to Europe overnight via the Hull to Rotterdam ferry. Watch Your Weight at Sea Warns Hutton’s Medical

Modern seafarers should keep an eye on their weight as well as the horizon to avoid storing up health problems, advised Hutton’s, UK ship supplier which is calling for seafarers to make a conscious effort to switch to a healthier diet. “Seafarers can easily become overweight if they load up on calories to get through long working shift patterns,” said John MacDonald, General Manager of Hutton’s Medical. “They just load up with calories to get them through the day but that doesn’t do your body any good at all. John said it’s not just ship owners and managers who need to change their attitudes to crew health by purchasing healthier foods, but individual seafarers themselves who can take more responsibility for their own health and diet.

Hutton’s Opens Largest UK Depot

Britain’s leading ship supplier, Hutton’s, has responded to growing demand from the offshore oil and gas sectors by opening its biggest UK depot in Aberdeen. Hutton’s, which recently announced record sales figures, moved into the 13,000 sq ft (1300sq m) depot from a smaller 5,000 sq ft warehouse a month ago. Hutton’s need for expansion is a result of increased business from the offshore industry. The new facility is located near Aberdeen harbour and provides Hutton’s with considerably increased capacity. In addition, the depot provides modern office space with up-to-date IT systems and hi-tech meeting facilities. Leased from the Harbour Board the unit is recently refurbished and houses 350 cu m of chilled and frozen freezer facilities and 382 ambient pallet places.

LevelSeas Buys SeaLogistics

London-based e-shipbroker LevelSeas has acquired main competitor Houston-based SeaLogistics during a week that has seen swift consolidation in the shipping e-commerce sector. LevelSeas was founded by Shell, Cargill, and London shipbroker Clarksons in April 2000, to broker ships for cargoes over the Internet. It has always been seen by the shipping industry as the lead contender, closely followed by SeaLogistics. "LevelSeas will exchange equity for the primary assets of SeaLogistics," it said a statement. The deal with SeaLogistics will strengthen LevelSeas' position in the tanker markets especially, it said. LevelSeas' core business is e-broking, but the platform also offers voyage-management and risk management tools. Freight futures trading will also be offered.
