WISTA Norway announces Rikke Lind as the “Shipping name of the year” during Nor-shipping 2011. Lind receives the award as recognition of her dedicated efforts to support women in the maritime industry for more than 10 years. Rikke Lind will accept the award this afternoon at a ceremony in Oslo. Women´s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) is an organisation for women at management level in the maritime industry. Its mission is to facilitate networking and professional development for women in shipping.

The Annual General Meeting of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (NSA) has elected Elisabeth Grieg, the Chief Executive of Grieg International AS, as the Association's new President. Grieg (48) was proposed unanimously by the election committee and succeeds Trygve Seglem of Knutsen OAS Shipping, who has been President for the last two years. Elisabeth Grieg is the first female president of the NSA. Thor Jørgen Guttormsen of Leif Høegh & Co in Oslo and Stig Remøy of Olympic Shipping AS in Fosnavåg were elected as new vice-presidents, having been NSA Board members for six and four years, respectively.

The annual General Assembly of The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association has today elected shipowner Johan G. Hvide, Seatrans DA in Bergen, as President for a two years period. Mr. Hvide was unanimously proposed and was elected by acclamation. The committee for the Thor Heyerdahl International Maritime Environmental Award has nominated shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the Norwegian-headed industry and research project FellowSHIP Project and the ProSea Foundation in Holland for this year’s Heyerdahl Award. The committee has now submitted the list of nominees to an award committee, which will choose this year’s winner.
