Two large-capacity Sovcomflot tankers using cleaner-burning LNG as a primary fuel, Mendeleev Prospect and Lomonosov Prospect, have successfully completed their respective voyages eastbound along the Northern Sea Route (NSR).Lomonosov Prospect has reached Cape Dezhnev, the easternmost end of the NSR, at 05:50 Moscow time on October 16, 2019. The large-capacity Aframax tanker "Gagarin Prospect", owned by Russia's SCF Group,  successfully implementated  construction and operation commencement  using LNG as the primary fuel.Konstantin G. Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft has rejected a proposal from its rival Summa Group to complete a deal to buy a Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port (NCSP), a Transneft spokesman said on Monday.If the deal goes ahead it will allow Transneft to take control of Russia's largest port operator. But Transneft said earlier this month it had suspended talks on the deal after the authorities arrested the co-owner of Summa, Ziyavudin Magomedov, on charges of embezzling more than $35 million.Magomedov denied the charges at a pre-trial hearing…

Russia plans to sharply increase fuel exports and carve out a larger share of the European market following an extensive $55 billion modernisation of its refineries, companies' plans and analysts' reports show. Russia embarked on a modernisation of its biggest refineries in 2011 following a fuel shortage crisis. It also changed its tax system to favour production of cleaner and higher-quality fuel. The modernisation, which has not been completed yet, led to a surge in output of light products and exports, which has hurt European refineries' margins.

Russia's June Urals crude exports from the Baltic Sea ports are expected to fall by 15 percent compared with May on a daily basis to 5.51 million tonnes, a preliminary loading plan seen by Reuters showed on Thursday. Crude loadings from the port of Primorsk were set to fall by 30 percent to 2.71 million tonnes due to planned works on Baltic pipeline system. Supplies from the neighbouring Ust-Luga port are set at 2.8 million tonnes, up 100,000 tonnes from the May loading plan.

Russia will ship an extra 100,000 tonnes of Urals crude oil from the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk in April, bringing total shipments from that port to 4.6 million tonnes, according to a schedule seen by Reuters on Friday.   The extra cargo will be shipped by Rosneft on April 20-21.   This will increase total Urals oil supplies from the Baltic Sea to 7.1 million tonnes next month - the highest monthly figure since October 2013. Swiss-based trader and miner Glencore has sold 100,000 tonnes of Urals for loadings from Primorsk on Jan. 16-17 to Chevron for delivery to the US Gulf Coast, traders said, making a return to the United States after a four-year hiatus. Glencore originally bought the cargo from Russia's Rosneft under a five-year pre-finance agreement, according to the traders. Rosneft declined to comment. Glencore does not typically comment on its trading deals. The cargo had been loaded from the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk on the vessel called Sparto, port agents' data shows. Sparto was heading to Skagen in Denmark, where it would be re-loaded onto another tanker for shipment to the United States, traders said.

The new year has started somewhat slower and rates ex Meg are off the peaks, but earnings remain very healthy. Continued interest for period is keeping the momentum going and rates ex Meg seem to withstand charterers fierce attempts to shave further off the rates. Close to two thirds of the January program covered so far in the Meg and further direction dependent on what is left before the BOT Feb stems are available only in a week or so. Wafr/East continues steady with dates well into Feb being traded and rates stable. Increased activity Caribbean/East with rates firming is absorbing tonnage available in the area.

The Russian government plans to spend between $400 to $500 million to expand and deepen the harbor of the Novorossiysk seaport to handle larger vessels, reports Moscow News. Construction, in order to make it more competitive with Ukrainian ports also on the Black Sea,  is set to begin in the first quarter of next year with completion scheduled for 2020. Russian government expects that the project will boost container volume at Novorossiysk by 10 to 15 percent annually. The operator, NCSP Group is Europe’s third largest port operator in terms of cargo turnover, and the undisputed leader in the Russian market. The Group operates two of the largest Russian ports – Port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea coast…

Trading house Gunvor, which has been selling assets in Russia, has again emerged as the winner of a semi-annual Rosneft tender, traders said on Tuesday.   They said Gunvor would lift from 200,000 tonnes to 500,000 tonnes of Russian Urals crude per month from the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk in October-March.   Rosneft declined to comment. Russian Urals crude weakened in the Mediterranean on Monday and paper swaps showed potential for the grade to lose further ground in August. In the Platts window, Litasco offered an 80,000 tonne cargo in the Mediterranean at dated Brent minus 65 cents, some 20 cents weaker than previous price estimates, but found no buyers, traders said. Urals August swaps showed prices could weaken to dated Brent minus 60 to 75 cents in the Mediterranean and by some 10-15 cents in the Baltic from the current levels of dated Brent minus $1.20-1.30 a barrel. "It looks like August could be similar or slightly shorter than July in terms of volumes. So prices will most likely remain range-bound," said a trader with an oil major.

Russia plans to cut oil exports by pipeline and oil transit by 0.6 percent to 52.5 million tonnes in the third quarter, quarter-on-quarter, trade sources citing a loading schedule said on Tuesday. The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters oil exports and transit via the Baltic Sea port of Primorsk were seen rising to 12.4 million tonnes from 12.1 million in the second quarter. Those through the Ust-Luga port were seen falling to 6.6 million tonnes from 7 million. The Black Sea port of Novorossiisk is expected to ship 7.4 million tonnes versus 7.8 million tonnes.
