APM Terminals Pipavav Launches Double Stack Rail Service

APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd) one of western India’s fastest growing gateway ports, has commenced a new weekly double stack rail service to the industrial center in Faridabad in north India’s Haryana State, near the Indian Capital City of New Delhi. The dedicated double stack operations, which can efficiently carry two containers placed one on top of another in specially designed rail cars, will be operated in association with Gateway Rail and NYK India. Known as "Sakura II", the service will operate between Pipavav Port and ICD-Faridabad (Piyala)/ICD-Garhi Harsaru, covering a distance of 1,015 km (630 miles) exclusively for Japanese NYK Shipping Line.

Cairn India Seeks to Export Oil Despite Ban

Cairn India Ltd has invited initial bids for exports of its oil from the desert state of Rajasthan, according to a copy of the tender notice seen by Reuters, despite a government ban on overseas sales of locally-produced crude. A government official said there had been no change in the ban and that Cairn India might simply be trying to establish a price for its oil via the tender process ahead of negotiations to sell it to local buyers. Cairn India, backed by billionaire Anil Agarwal, did not respond to telephone calls and an email seeking comment about the export notice. India is the world's fourth-biggest oil consumer and imports about 80 percent of its oil needs, leading it to place restrictions on the export of locally-produced oil.

Adani Hazira Port Handles Record Rock Phosphate

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) today said its Hazira port had recently handled a record quantity of rock phosphate of 188,684 metric tonnes, highest amongst any commercial port in single calendar month. With this feat, Adani Hazira Port surpassed Kandla Port’s all time best of handling the similar cargo of 182,748 metric tonnes in June 2012. With this, Adani Hazira port has established a unique position in the handling of rock phosphate on the west coast of India. Rock Phosphate is the key raw material for manufacturing of Phosphoric acid, and Single Super Phosphate fertilizer. This milestone has been achieved due to sustained patronage of the SSP manufacturers and persistence support of the suppliers and traders of rock phosphate and the transporter fraternity.

Adani's Commission Tuna Tekra Bulk Terminal at Kandla

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest port developer and part of Adani Group, a global integrated player, today said it had commissioned a bulk terminal at Tuna Tekra, Kanda Port, with an annual handling capacity of over 20 million tonnes, further consolidating its leadership one position on the west coast of India. Nitin Gadkari, the Honourable Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways inaugurated the terminal after the berthing of the project’s first vessel MV Sheng Ming earlier in the day. “The Tuna Tekra terminal is yet another feather in the Adani cap. We expect the terminal to be a game-changer for Export Import trade of the Northwest hinterland of India, thanks to its strategic location.

Adani Ports to Commission Tuna Tekra Terminal by Dec 2014

Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd, India’s largest port developer and part of Adani Group, will commission its dry bulk cargo handling terminal at Tuna Tekra in a record time by December 2014. The group shared this development with prospective clients during a trade meeting, last week. The meet, organized by Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd to make this announcement and showcase the salient features of the project, received unprecedented response, and was attended by more than 60-65 representatives from almost every major shipping agencies/lines as well as custom house agents operating in the region. Attendees were given a detailed presentation on the upcoming facility and were also taken on a guided tour of the terminal.

P Elango, CEO of Cairn India steps down

Cairn India Ltd. announces that Mr. P Elango, Interim CEO & Whole time Director has decided to step down for personal reasons. The Board has accepted his resignation. Mr. Sudhir Mathur, CFO, has taken over the additional responsibility of leading the organization in the interim. Tom Albanese, CEO Vedanta Resources plc and Mike Yeager, Chairman, Operations Review Board, Cairn India, will continue to work closely with the leadership team in managing the business under the guidance of the Board. The Board expresses its appreciation for Mr. Elango’s significant contribution during his nearly 18 years’ association with the company. Aegis Logistics commissioned ahead of schedule

Aegis Group, a Leader in Oil, Gas and Chemical Logistics, announced successful early commissioning of the 70,120 KL Bulk Liquid Terminal at Pipavav port on West coast of India. The Pipavav - Phase I expansion was initiated in February 2013 to set up Bulk Liquid Terminal of 1,20,000 KL & 2,700 MT of Gas Terminal & was targeted to commission in H2 FY2015. However, the best efforts of in-house project team resulted in advancement of project by six months. Over 50% Liquid Facilities has now been commissioned with 13 additional tanks operational with a storage capacity totaling to 70,120 KL. IMEC Appoints Dalela Training Manager

Captain Anand Dalela is to join IMEC beginning 1 January 2009 as its representative Training Manager in the Philippines. The International Maritime Employers' Committee (IMEC) is an employers organization based in London. Captain Dalela will be taking over from Captain Cedric D’Souza who will be moving on to new opportunities in the United States. Captain Dalela has experience sailing aboard product tankers, VLCCs and bulk carriers, having commenced his career as a cadet in 1993. On passing the examinations required to attain his Master’s Certificate in 2002 he continued sailing as Chief Officer until 2005 when he was given his first command of the bulk carrier Federal Rhine.

India’s Shipping Companies Look to Offshore Investments

With the boom in the oil and gas exploration sector, fueled by the recent awarding of new blocks under NELP VI, Indian shipping companies are tanking up to sharpen their focus on the offshore segment. Only last month, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) came out with a tender for chartering of around 26 offshore supply vessels, with mobilization requirement up to the third week of November. Shipping companies such as Great Eastern Shipping, Varun Shipping and Mercator Lines have lined up significant investments in this sector in the current fiscal. In fact, the boom in the offshore sector is one of the reasons that prompted GE Shipping to de-merge its offshore division into a separate company, Great Offshore Ltd, to get higher valuations from this business.
