RAN Expands Training with Kongsberg Simulators
Kongsberg Digital has signed a contract for a delivery of two new K-Sim Full Mission Bridge simulators at the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) HMAS Watson Bridge Simulator Facility in Watsons Bay, Sydney, Australia. The project is a noteworthy addition to Kongsberg’s service delivery contracts with the RAN, which includes multiple shiphandling and engine room simulators delivered at training facilities across the country.The requirement for expansion and intensification of RAN’s training program is the result of a sustained period of growth and capability enhancement for the navy.
Six New Ferries for Sydney Harbor
Six new ferries to operate on Sydney’s Inner Harbor have been ordered from Australian shipbuilder Incat Tasmania’s Hobart Shipyard, who was awarded the contract to prepare detailed designs and build the new vessels. The new vessel exterior is a traditional design to look similar to the Sydney First Fleet vessels, however the 35-meter, 400-passenger boats have greater capacity than the current fleet. Sperry Marine Radars for Australian Ferry Fleet
Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has been chosen to supply radars for the Sydney Harbour Ferries fleet. Sydney Harbour Ferries will fit the Sperry Marine new-generation VisionMaster FT chart radars on all 28 vessels in the fleet. Electrotech Australia Pty Ltd, Sperry Marine’s licensed sales and service representative in Australia, will install and commission the radars and will provide technical support through its Sydney office. “The VisionMaster FT chart radars enhance situational awareness for watch officers by providing an overlay of radar images on a detailed electronic chart display,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president of Naval Systems International at Northrop Grumman’s Naval and Marine Systems Division.
Incat Crowther Designs Dinner Cruise Boat for Sydney Harbor
Incat Crowther was selected to design a 78.7 ft. Catamaran Dinner Cruise Boat for the Sydney Harbor operator, VC Cruises. The vessel will be a low speed catamaran capable of carrying 400 passengers at a service speed of 10 knots fully loaded. The main deck cabin will contain loose seating for approx 176 passengers in various configurations to suit the desired function. The main cabin will also incorporate a fully stocked bar, food servery, DJ booth and dance floor plus a removable raised stage. A fully equipped galley and cool room has been arranged in the port hull capable of providing food service for the full compliment of 400 passengers.
