Parana River's Main Channel Obstructed After Vessel Runs Aground

A vessel carrying wheat that ran aground near the main channel of South America's Parana River has been freed but the waterway remains closed while checks are being made, the Argentine Naval Prefecture said on Tuesday.The vessel ran aground on Feb.17 and "was heading outbound in laden condition, navigating with a draft of 10.23 meters and carrying 31,121 metric tons of wheat," Inchcape Shipping said in a notice.The Parana River runs through Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.

JIT Trial Cuts Emissions

"Just-In-Time" (JIT) operations have the potential to cut the time ships spend idling outside ports and help reduce harmful emissions as well as save on fuel costs.According to International Maritime Organization (IMO), this can be achieved by communicating in advance the relevant information to the ship about the requested time of arrival - allowing the ship to adjust to optimum speed. Hamburg Süd Opens Dubai Office

Hamburg Süd has opened its first proprietary agency in the Middle East. On February 1 Hamburg Süd Shipping LLC commenced operations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company-owned agency coordinates Hamburg Süd’s business in the Persian Gulf and has taken over all the tasks and activities for commercial operations as well as container logistics from the long-standing local agency partner Inchcape Shipping Services LLC. ISS Expands Business with Team Tankers International

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime and logistics service provider, has greatly expanded its European business with Team Tankers International with a new port agency contract across the region. Under the new agreement with the chemical tanker specialist, ISS will provide port agency and vessel clearance services in all major European ports and terminals. Team Tankers International is one of the largest chemical tanker operators in the world, with a fleet of over 40 chemical tankers. New Draft Restrictions for Parana River and River Plate

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) is advising of a change to under keel clearance (UKC) rules on Parana River and River Plate in Argentina. From November 25, 2016, the Coast Guard has advised that an under keel clearance (UKC) will be applied for vessels which transit Parana River and River Plate with a fresh water draft above 10.36 meters(m). The new restrictions will aid safe navigation. 1. Draft between 10.37m to 10.49m, 3 centimeters for each centimeters of draft above 10.36m in addition to the compulsory UKC of 0.60m. 2. Draft above 10.50m, UKC will be 10% of the static draft. E.g for a ship with a draft of 10.50 m, total UKC will be 1.05m. 1. Draft between 10.37m to 10.67m, 1.5 centimetres for each centimeter of draft above 10.36m in addition to the compulsory UKC of 0.60m.

Large Earthquake Damages New Zealand Ports and Infrastructure

New Zealand’s largest earthquake in 150 years has led to a number of port and infrastructure issues, advises Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS). The ports of Wellington and Picton suffered damages after the 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the upper South Island of New Zealand at midnight local time on November 14. Wellington authorities said both the port and wharf gates will remain closed for the next week, and no ship or cargo operations will be permitted. As and when certain sections are cleared by engineers selective operations may be allowed to recommence during this period, ISS said. Wellington has gantry crane issues, wharf subsidence and log pile collapses. Cook Strait cargo/pax ferries are all at anchor as terminals at Wellington and Picton have substantial damage.

ISS Expands Global Business with NORDEN

Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), the world’s leading maritime and logistics service provider, has expanded its global business with Danish tramp shipping company, NORDEN A/S, with a new contract for crew logistics and husbandry services. Under the additional agreement for the dry cargo and tanker specialist, ISS will co-ordinate over 2,800 crew changes per year across 32 vessels worldwide, as well as husbandry and disbursement account processing. The arrangement with ISS will support NORDEN’s operations and accounting teams and provide a single point of contact and remittance, negating the need for multiple, regional agents.
