Miller to Showcase Welding Solutions at International WorkBoat Show

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 20, 2016

Miller Electric Mfg. Co. is showcasing welding equipment technologies to enhance quality, productivity and cost savings in the shipbuilding industry during the International WorkBoat Show at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, November 30 to December 2. Miller will be located at booth 3141, where visitors can view products, experience live welding demonstrations and speak with Miller representatives who can answer product and welding questions. Hobart will also be displaying its filler metals for shipbuilding applications alongside Miller.

Product innovations featured at the show have been chosen for their ability to enhance weld quality, increase productivity and improve safety, including:

ArcReach multiprocess welding systems: ArcReach Technology allows welding operators to change welding parameters at the weld joint without the use of control cables, helping to improve productivity for stick, TIG, MIG and flux-cored welding by eliminating unnecessary trips to the power source and providing greater arc-on time. This encourages best-practice weld settings and techniques, and improves safety by reducing tripping hazards and operator fatigue.

•The Dimension 650 ArcReach multiprocess welder is designed specifically to withstand harsh environments in the field, but is versatile enough for the shop. The welder offers an unbeatable combination of durability, output, efficiency and capability that minimizes downtime — all in a smaller, easier-to handle package.

•The XMT 350 VS ArcReach (for 3- or 1-phase power) and XMT 450 VS ArcReach (for 3-phase power) are both ideal for the shipbuilding industry, where welding operators work at significant distances from the power source. Both systems are compatible with Miller SuitCase X-TREME 12 VS or 8 VS ArcReach feeders, and provide multiprocess welding capabilities, along with remote override of weld process and arc voltage at the power supply. Miller also offers the ArcReach technology in XMT 350 CC/CV and XMT 450 CC/CV models for MIG, stick, TIG and flux-cored welding, along with air carbon arc cutting and gouging.

•The ArcReach Stick/TIG Remote allows welding operators to set the amperage at the weld joint for stick and TIG welding processes, reducing downtime and improving safety. This remote eliminates the need to settle for less-than-optimal welding parameters, which helps improve quality, and it increases productivity by allowing for greater arc-on time. A new Auto-Bind feature automatically establishes communication between the power source and remote, and includes settings for welding with American Welding Society (AWS) EXX10 and EXX18 stick electrode and also offers the ability to air carbon arc gouge.

LiveArc welding performance management system: The LiveArc system is designed to deliver a real-world, arc-on welding experience — to build new welding operator skills faster and improve the technique of existing operators. The reality-based training system utilizes a live arc and advanced motion-tracking technology. Coming in fall of 2016, the new SmartStinger will extend the system’s training capabilities to the stick welding process, in addition to the existing MIG capabilities. The LiveArc monitor guides pre-weld positioning with visual feedback — so users can improve baseline welding skills.

AlumaFeed aluminum MIG welding systems: The AlumaFeed aluminum MIG welding system features the XR-AlumaFeed and AlumaPower 350 MPa or 450 MPa, and is designed to simplify and improve MIG and pulsed MIG welding applications for aluminum welding. Built-in pulsed MIG programs automatically set the optimal parameters for the most commonly used aluminum alloys, such as 4000 and 5000 Series, with wire diameters up to 1/16 inch for high-deposition applications.
