SHI receives AiP from LR for LNG-fuelled VLCC

The maritime classification society Lloyd's Register (LR) has presented SHI with approval in principle (AiP) for an LNG-fuelled Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) equipped with a 6,000 cubic metre LNG fuel storage tank, a two-stroke dual-fuel diesel engine and an LNG fuel supply system.This AiP was a result of joint development project with SHI named VLCC2020, said a press release from the technical and business services organisation, wholly owned by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.LR assessed the technical feasibility of the LNG fuel supply system and energy saving technologies, including SAVER Air, a SHI patented air lubrication system…

Eniram Opens Office in London

Eniram Launches 3 New Energy Savers

Eniram Ltd, a provider of energy management and fuel-saving technology and analytic services to the shipping industry, announced the release of three new products aiming to help save fuel and optimize energy usage on vessels. The company has launched the upgraded speed optimization solution Eniram Speed 3.0, Eniram Performance 3.0 data analytic software, as well as Eniram Fleet Route KPIs designed to support improved routing. Improving on past version Eniram Speed 2.0, the new Eniram Speed 3.0 takes into account factors such as the prevailing sea state, in computing and recommending best speed profile to consume least energy and thus save fuel.

Japan Shipyards Turn to Fuel-Savings to Compete

According to a report from Bloomberg, Japanese shipbuilders, leapfrogged by South Korean and Chinese yards in an industry they once dominated, are counting on fuel-saving technology to help them overcome a stronger yen and high wages. A Japanese handysize dry-bulk ship typically uses about 24 tons of fuel a day, compared with 28 tons for Chinese-made ones, a Bloomberg source said.   Source: Bloomberg

Intersleek 900 for UK Navy’s Flagship

The UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has returned to International Paint for more of the latest fuel saving technology, Intersleek 900, for the hull of the UK Navy’s flagship HMS Ark Royal. She is the latest UK MoD vessel to benefit from Intersleek foul release coatings which can cut fuel consumption and reduce emissions. Navy Stern Flap Installations for Fuel Savings

The U.S. Navy began installing stern flaps in April on amphibious ships in an effort make ships more fuel efficient and save up to $450,000 in fuel costs per ship annually. USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), the first dock landing ship to receive stern flaps, began the installation process mid-April during a scheduled maintenance availability in Norfolk, Va.
