Denmark has lifted restrictions on sailing in waters near the Nord Stream pipeline leaks in the Baltic Sea and said it was no longer dangerous for ships to navigatein the area. The restrictions were lifted by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) at the recommendation of the Danish Energy Agency. The DMA said, however, it continues to discourage anchoring, fishing, and seabed works within one nautical mile (1.85 km) of the leaks due to "underwater obstacles". Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) announced that two new deputy director generals joined its the Executive Board.The new deputy director generals are Rikke Wetter Olufsen and Niels Wammen-Jensen. They both come from director positions within DMA.For the past four years, Rikke has been director of Blue Growth and Maritime Policy at the Danish Maritime Authority. Rikke joined the DMA from the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, where she covered a broad portfolio of business policy areas.Niels has been director and served as the DMA's "ambassador" in the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs for the past two years.

The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) has launched a pilot project on digital certificates for seafarers.MUMBAI MÆRSK heads out from the Port of Aarhus for destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia with crew certificates that are entirely digital instead of traditional paper certificates yesterday (May 29). This is simpler, faster and safer for seafarers, shipping companies and authorities.During the voyage, the merchant ship will call into port in Germany, Morocco, Singapore, China and South Korea, where it will collect data and knowledge about the use of digital certificates for seafarers. If you are going into the water on a personal watercraft, remember that you need a personal watercraft certificate, said Danish Maritime Authority (DMA)."You must have a personal watercraft certificate to use a personal watercraft or similar vessel. Watercraft certificates are a requirement, whether you own or rent the vessel," said a press note from DMA."You can get the personal watercraft certificate by passing a test. During the test you will, among other things have to show your knowledge of the shipping regulations, and demonstrate safe behavior when navigating at different speeds, including steering and maneuvering during acceleration.

In the coming months, a large drone will check emissions from ships in Danish waters to make sure they comply with the sulphur limit, said Danish Maritime Authority (DMA).The drone is provided by the European Maritime Safety Agency, and is to be used as a means of preventing ship pollution.The drone is fitted with a so-called "sniffer” capable of measuring sulphur emissions. Entering the ship's exhaust gas plume, the drone can register the amount of sulphur in the fuel.
