Cammell Laird: Polar Ship Contract to Kick-start Exports
British shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird said it plans to unleash an “aggressive exports drive” in 2017 after one of its busiest years for commercial marine work, which saw it land the biggest shipbuilding project in the U.K. for a generation. Cammell Laird CEO John Syvret said the winning of the £150 million contract to build the Sir David Attenborough polar research vessel for the U.K. Government “threw open” a new global market to build a range of high value polar vessels from research to cruise ships.
Irish Ferries Dock with A&P Group
A&P Group announces the successful dry dockings of three Irish Ferries vessels. Ulysses, one of the world’s largest car ferries, was the first to dry dock at A&P Southampton in January. This 50,938 grt vessel, which operates between Holyhead (North Wales) and Dublin City (Ireland), has capacity for 2000 persons and up to 260 articulated vehicles on or 1,342 cars on four decks and has the equivalent of 4km of roadway for articulated vehicles onboard. Whilst in dock, this almost new and excellently maintained vessel underwent various repairs including bow modifications to allow for simultaneous lane discharge of both cars and articulated vehicles from the upper decks.

Irish Ferry Emerges from Refit at A&P Falmouth
On the evening of June 7th, A&P Falmouth welcomed the Irish Ferries passenger vessel Isle of Innisfree to its dry docks for repairs. This vessel represents the fourth Irish Ferries vessel to dock with A&P Group during 2002, following the dry docking of the Ulysses and Isle of Inishmore in Southampton and the Normandy at Falmouth. The 22,365grt Isle of Innisfree arrived at Falmouth on the evening of the 7th of June 2002 after leaving Le Havre, where she has been laid up for the past 12 months. The vessel carried out berthing trials at Le Havre, Cherbourg and Portsmouth before her trip to Falmouth where she entered No. 2 dock for a 10 day docking period.
