This agreement will provide both organizations with the opportunity to enhance their proposition in helping to optimize shipping operations worldwide. As part of a two day workshop at Aage Hempel’s head office in Algeciras, Spain, BMT will deliver both hardware and software training on its SMART range of fleet and vessel performance management software and services to a number of engineers.

Massive Italian Shipborne Navigation Contract for Transas

Transas Marine has won the Italian tender of "Consorzio degli armatori del mediterraneo" for supply of navigation equipment for 64 vessels. "Consorzio degli armatori del mediterraneo" is the Italian Shipowners Research Consortium which consists of 6 shipowners (Augusta Due, Marnavi, L.G.R. di Navigazione, Gestioni Armatoriali, Elbana di Navigazione, Perseveranza). According to the contract, Transas dual Navi-Sailor 4000 ECDIS Premium systems will be installed onboard of 64 oil/chemical tanker and bulk carrier vessel.

Aveva Opens New Office in India

Business expansion will provide a sales, technical support and training center for the Indian market. Aveva opened a new office in Mumbai. The office, which is situated in Powai, will be Aveva’s Indian hub for all sales and technical support, as well as housing a fully equipped training facility. “Aveva  has significantly expanded its sales, marketing and technical team in India,” said Evgeny Fedotov, Senior Vice President, Russia, India & Middle East, Aveva. “This is part of a strategic development plan that will allow us to further improve the scope and quality of our services to our rapidly growing network of customers and partners in India’s oil & gas, power and marine industries.

Kongsberg Forms Research Group to Optimize Simulator

Kongsberg Maritime AS, Simulation & Training has made an agreement with the Research Council of Norway to form a user-directed research program called SIMAR - Simulation of Demanding Maritime Operations - which is aimed at improving simulation training by enhancing focus on human factors. Intermoor GNSS Equipent Order for Veripos

Veripos has received a major order for integrated mobile GNSS receiver equipment from the world’s largest full-service mooring company, InterMoor, an Acteon Company. The equipment, comprising ten Veripos LD3-GI and four LD2-G2 integrated demodulator and GNSS receivers, is being supplied together with upgrades of existing LD2-G1 and LD2-G2 units. New Simulation Capability - MAMA

Mid-Atlantic Maritime Academy in Virginia Beach, VA announced the installation of a Transas ERS4000 Engine Room Simulator. The simulator provides is a complete training system that includes classroom demonstrations and scenario playback, stand-alone and team watch-standing operation of the engineering plant in a computer lab setting, as well as watch-standing operations in an engine control room mockup with dedicated control consoles and switchboards. The system provides the capability of integration with the school’s full-bridge ship-handling simulator for joint bridge/engine room training exercises. The simulator is IMO STCW-95 compliant for watch keeping  functions at both support and operational levels, for training unlicensed and licensed watch-standers.

BASS and IMTC Sign Training Agreement

BASS has signed an agreement with Indian Maritime Training Centre (IMTC). IMTC will train seafarers to familiarize themselves with the BASSware suite. BASS installed the planned maintenance software, Star IPS at IMTC in September last year. October 2001. To date, 110 participants have undergone the training. The program is divided into four modules, which are covered in three days. At the end of each module delivery, participants will complete the practical exercises based on relative day-to-day shipboard activities. The course is delivered with the help of PowerPoint slides and hands-on navigation through the actual software. “Signing this agreement with BASS, has greatly enhanced our own portfolio of software training programmes we offer.

IXSEA Names Hoof New Sales Manager

In order to strengthen their activities in the scientific market and to branch out further into other industries such as defense, IXSEA appointed Arne Hoof as Sales Manager based in the new IXSEA subsidiary in Hannover, Germany. Arne will be developing the market for IXSEA products and managing sales in Germany. Arne holds an Engineering Diploma in Geodesy from the University of Hannover and a Certificate of Academic Proficiency in Hydrographic Surveying from the University of New Brunswick, Canada. He previously worked in customer support and software training and as project engineer at Hamburg Port Authority with CARIS Geographic Information Systems bv.

BASS and NTC-M Partner Up

In sync with their objective of “training seafarers using quality software”, BASS and the Norwegian Training Center (NTC-M) in Manila have agreed to establish hands-on training experience for seafarers as the industry moves towards adopting ICT (Information and Communications Technology). BASS will contribute by installing their integrated shipboard applications in a simulated environment in NTC-M while the training center will conduct training based upon actual operation between ship and office.
