Sea Kindly: A Steady Vessel by Design

Seakeeping refers to motions of a vessel in waves, but sea-kindliness is a characteristic sought after in most vessels. A sea-kindly vessel is easy on its crew and easy on its gear. Trying to define sea-kindly is difficult. The deep sea mariner may use qualitative descriptions such as "an easy roll" or "a wet boat," but the vessel designer must look for quantitative descriptions. There are six degrees of motion in a vessel, three are linear: surge, heave, and sway; three are rotational: pitch, roll, and yaw. Each of these degrees of motion has associated values of amplitude, velocity, and acceleration. A vessel in a beam sea can be rolling up to 30 degrees (amplitude) and the associated acceleration could be 0.5 g or 1 g.

Izar Gijon Delivers Two Massive Dredgers

Last December Izar Gijón Shipyard delivered to Jan De Nul the suction dredgers named “Taccola” and “Francesco di Giorgio” ofwith 4.400m3 of capacity each. With a total of eight dredgers delivered in two years, Izar consolidates its position in the construction of these technologically sophisticated ships. Gijón has recently delivered two other dredges for the fFrench company “Dragages Ports”, of with 5.000m3 and 8.500m3 of capacity. Over the last two years, Izar has built dredgers of several sizes at its shipyards in Gijón and Sestao.

Last December Izar Gijón Shipyard delivered to Jan De Nul the suction dredgers named Taccola and Francesco di Giorgio each of which boasts a 4,400 cu. m. capacity. With a total of eight dredgers delivered in two years, Izar consolidates its position in the construction of these technologically sophisticated ships. Gijón has recently delivered two other dredges for the fFrench company Dragages Ports, of with 5,000 cu. m. and 8,500 cu. m. of capacity. Over the last two years, Izar has built dredgers of several sizes at its shipyards in Gijón and Sestao. The biggest ones, the Kaishuu and the Juan Sebastian Elcano, with a capacity of 16,000 cu. m. each were built at Sestao Shipyard which also built the Filippo de Brunelleschi, and the Francis Beaufort with a capacity of 11,500 cu.
