Naval architecture students in Galati, Romania and Gdansk, Poland, used their technical and soft skills to compete in the final of ShipDX (Ship Design Exercise), the first naval architecture competition in Romania.GLO Marine, the organizer of the competition, looked at current industry trends to propose the theme of this year’s edition: the concept design of a highly autonomous, self-propelled floating house, with a focus on integrating green and sustainable technologies into the smart design.

International Container Terminal Services, Inc.'s (ICTSI) flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) has received four of 16 new hybrid rubber-tired gantries (RTG) as part of the Company’s long-term investment in capacity enhancement and environmental efficiency."A first in Philippines and Manufactured by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Ecoslops announces that it has made further progress in its project to expand in Egypt by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Suez Canal Economic Zone for the development of a detailed feasibility study. The potential for recovering oil residues transiting the Suez Canal is estimated at more than 40,000 tonnes per year, based on 18,000 passages and 7,000 ports of call. Egypt also has important world-class ports like Alexandria, generating more than 5,000 calls a year, which also have significant potential for waste generation. As per the directives of Government of India, the ‘Swachhta Pakhwada” (fortnight-long cleanliness) activities are being executed on priority basis by V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust. As per the scheduled Swachh Pakhwada Action Plan, today, on 20.03.2017, color washing and paintings of residential buildings and structures of Harbour Estate were carried out as per the colour code to ensure healthy environment. Signage boards and posters have also been placed in areas of waste generation and handling. Action has also been taken to clean and repair the drainage systems available in the Port operational areas and Residential areas. The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group has honored  100 women from around the world for making a difference in the safety, health and environmental (SH&E) field as part of the WISE ‘100 Women, Making a Difference in Safety’ project. Mary Armstrong, who is based in the Seattle area, was honored for her dedication to protecting people, property and the environment. Armstrong is the vice president of Environment, Health and Safety at Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company. She joined the company in 1984 as a process engineer for manufacturing research and development, and steadily ascended the chain of command during the last two decades.

American Commercial Lines Inc. (ACL) announced that Jeffboat received a Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) on September 17 at the 11th annual Pollution Prevention Conference and Trade Show in Plainfield, IN. Jeffboat, the nation's largest inland shipbuilder, received the award for pollution prevention as a result of its implementation of a new system to blend epoxy coating with paint. This new process enabled Jeffboat to reduce hazardous waste generation by more than 25,000 pounds annually. It also resulted in the reduction of solvent usage by about 4,000 gallons annually while increasing production by 33 percent. Finally, the new process eliminated about 28,000 pounds of volatile organic compounds.
