Duke Energy to Help Develop Jeffersonville Port Site

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 28, 2015

Duke Energy Indiana has selected a 140-acre parcel of land inside the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville in Clark County for the utility's 2015 Site Readiness Program.

A key component of Duke Energy's economic development model, the Site Readiness Program identifies, evaluates and improves sites in the company's service territory for potential industrial development.

"We see distinct potential for this site to attract businesses that can bring economic growth to this area," said Lisa Huber, Duke Energy Indiana community relations manager for Clark County. "Helping promote economic development is an important part of our commitment to serving our customers."

As part of Duke Energy's evaluation of the Clark County property, site-selection consultant McCallum Sweeney Consulting will conduct a comprehensive assessment. Based on consultant recommendations, Duke Energy will collaborate with Ports of Indiana to develop a strategy for providing water, sewer, natural gas and electricity to the site.

The parties may also recommend road improvements, easements and rights-of-way that would be required to develop the site, as well as steps necessary to mitigate any potential environmental impacts. Banning Engineering will produce final drawings and conceptual site plans.

"The Duke Energy Site Readiness Program reinforces our work to attract new investment that leverages the multi-modal capabilities of the port," said Scott Stewart, port director. "We appreciate Duke Energy's partnership and collaboration, and we look forward to seeing the consultant's suggestions for making this parcel even more attractive to prospective industries."

The final recommendations from the site consultant will be presented to port officials during the week of Sept. 14. Duke Energy will also present a check for $10,000 to assist the Port in implementing the recommendations.

Other sites selected for the Duke Energy Indiana 2015 Site Readiness Program include properties in Howard, Rush and Vermillion counties.

Ideal properties for Duke Energy's Site Readiness Program are 60 acres or larger, served by the utility, or a vacant industrial building at least 20,000 square feet identified to support renewed industrial growth and sustainable development in a community.

Duke Energy's overall economic development program has also been consistently named by Site Selection magazine as one of the nation's "Top 10 Utility Economic Development Programs."
