SCHOTTEL to Propel Orca Class Heavy-lift Vessels

WuHu Shipyard Starts Building Orca Series Heavy Lift Vessel for Jumbo and SAL

China's WuHu Shipyard has cut the first steel for an Orca series heavy lift vessel being built for an alliance between SAL Heavy Lift GmbH and Jumbo Shipping.Back in September 2022, SAL and Jumbo said they had signed building contracts for four firms plus two optional new-generation heavy lift ships with Wuhu Shipyard."After a long and extensive planning phase, our Orca newbuilding series has finally kicked off! On 22 February, the ceremonial first steel cutting was conducted at WuHu Shipyard in Wuhu, China," the Dutch heavy lifting and transportation firm Jumbo said Tuesday.

Wärtsilä's Hybrid Propulsion System for Four New Heavy Lift Vessels

Finland-based marine engine and technology provider Wärtsilä will supply its hybrid propulsion system for four new heavy lift vessels being built at the Wuhu Shipyard in China. The ships are set to be delivered in 2025, and they will mostly be used to help set up wind farms. The vessels have been contracted by SAL Heavy Lift GmbH, a German heavy lift and project cargo specialist and part of the Harren Group, in cooperation with its joint-venture partner, Netherlands-based Jumbo Shipping.

German shipping and logistics group Harren & Partner announced it has hired Nils Aden as managing director, effective May 1.Aden brings to the role more than two decades of know-how as a shipping industry executive in the industry, with experience from leadership positions in international ship management, transformation projects, M&A transactions and integration. In his previous assignments, he overlooked the merger of V.Ships and Norddeutsche Reederei H. Schuldt as Managing Director, led Zeaborn as CEO and transformed E.R. Schiffahrt as CEO into an international ship management player.

Raytheon Anschütz Marks Crocon's IBS 100th Sale

At SMM 2012, Raytheon Anschütz has honored their Croatian representative Crocon for the 100th Integrated Bridge System sold. The one hundredth delivery of an Integrated Bridge System was for the second newbuild of a Heavy Lift Carrier for Dutch company Jumbo Shipping at Brodosplit shipyard in Split. The IBS will be of the new Synapsis Bridge Control series and in compliance with IMO’s new Performance Standards for Integrated Navigation Systems. Crocon has its roots in the marine business as an agency and representative of world leading suppliers and manufacturers on the Croatian market.

The German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz has been awarded the contract for the supply of advanced Integrated Navigations Systems of their Synapsis Bridge Control series to new Heavy Lift Carriers for Dutch company Jumbo Shipping. Jumbo Orders Second Heavy Lift Ship

Jumbo Shipping has confirmed the order for a second new K-class vessel, with an option on a third, to complement its existing fleet. After careful consideration and engineering study, Jumbo has decided to upgrade the lifting capacity of the vessels from 1,300 to 1,500mt, enabling tandem lifts of 3,000mt. These vessels will comfortably surpass the capability of other vessels in their class and reassert Jumbo's leading market position. This latest investment underlines Jumbo’s long-term commitment to its existing and new clients.

Jerry Nagel Receives Breakbulk Lifetime Achievement Award

Jerry Nagel, chairman of the board at Rickmers-Linie (America) was the recipient of the 8th annual Lifetime Leadership and Achievement Award at the Wed., Oct. 26 kickoff of the 22nd annual Breakbulk Transportation Conference and Exhibition at the New Orleans Convention Center, attended by more than 3,600 breakbulk and heavy-lift industry executives. Nagel, 62, has spent much of the past decade working as president and CEO at Rickmers-Linie (America) in Houston, where he oversaw the expansion of the carrier's business in the Americas.

Jumbo Shipping Appoints Agent in Brazil

Dutch heavy lift shipping and offshore installation company Jumbo recently appointed Tecnoil Comercio e Representacoes Ltda as its agent in Brazil. Tecnoil has been active in the energy market since 1973. Together with Tecnoil, Jumbo aims to further strengthen its position in the Brazilian Oil & Gas market. Erik Kleijn, Proposals and Contracts Manager, says: “Jumbo considers Brazil to be a growth market in heavy lift and offshore installation. Therefore it is important for Jumbo to work together with a local agency which understands and knows the Brazilian market. Tecnoil is such an agent.”

Jumbo Shipping Successfully Transports Monopiles

Jumbo Shipping has successfully transported 51 monopiles from EEW's manufacturing plant in Rostock, Germany, to Barrow-in-Furness in the UK. The monopiles’ final destination was DONG Energy's Walney Offshore Windfarm 2. When the contract was awarded, the first shipment was only seven weeks away, during which time Jumbo engineered all shipments and designed and manufactured saddles for the monopiles. Within this short period of time, all was ready and approved by the Marine Warranty Surveyor. Jumbo's HLV Fairpartner made six consecutive voyages carrying eight monopiles at a time: two in the hold and six on deck. The largest monopile weighed 806 metric tons and measured 68 meters in length and 6.5 meters in diameter.

Jumbo Completes Transports for KNPC

Jumbo Shipping has completed its eight-month heavy lift transport contract for client KNPC (Kuwait National Petroleum Company). The contract involved the transport of 37 reactors, separators and coke drums for KNPC’s Clean Fuels Project expansion. Jumbo’s Total Transport Solution included shipping and barging operations, as well as land transport. From October 2010 until June 2011, Jumbo’s Heavy Lift Vessels Jumbo Jubilee and Fairpartner and its flat-top barge JB-2 transported heavy refinery equipment from Hazira, India and Porto Marghera, Italy to the storage area in the Port of Shuaiba in Kuwait. Weights varied from 280 t coke drums up to 1595 t reactors, with the largest reactor measuring 42 x 8.5 x 7.5 m.

Jumbo Shipping and Volgo-Baltic Logistic

Jumbo Shipping, Pluto LNG Phase I

Jumbo Shipping’s heavy lift vessel Daniella has completed her 11th and final voyage for the Pluto LNG project in Dampier, Australia. Between October 2008 and October 2009 she transported 256 pieces of equipment for this project, including pre-assembled structures and pipe racks weighing up to 240 tonnes. HLV Fairlift has completed 12 voyages and will start the final phase of another 5 shipments. The Pluto LNG project in Dampier is developed by EPC-contractor Foster Wheeler WorleyParsons (FWW) for Australian energy major Woodside.

Jumbo Shipping Completes Pearl GTL Project

Jumbo Shipping has completed a two-year project for the Pearl GTL project of Qatar Shell GTL Ltd. From 2007 to November 2009, 24 reactors of 1,200 tonnes each have been transported to the Port of Ras Laffan. With 28,800 tonnes of heavy metal, Jumbo Logistics and Jumbo Shipping made a solid contribution to the Pearl GTL project. Jumbo’s HLV Fairpartner transported 12, German-built, reactors from Rotterdam. Jumbo Logistics was contracted to execute a barging operation for 12 of the reactors, starting at the fabrication site in Hamriyah (U.A.E.).

Jumbo Jubilee Maiden Voyage

Jumbo Shipping’s latest newbuild, HLV Jumbo Jubilee, completed its maiden voyage after successfully loading, transporting and installing two 1250 t shiploaders for FL Smidth in challenging circumstances. The Jumbo Jubilee started her first voyage from her home port Rotterdam, The Netherlands. She set sail for Vitória, Brazil, where two shiploaders were waiting, each with a processing capacity of 16,000 t iron ore per hour. With ample clearance between crane jib and cargo and enough lifting height to clear the conveyor belt at the centre of the pier, the loading operation was relatively easy.

Jumbo Jubilee Discharges 700T Spud Cans

Jumbo Shipping’s latest vessel, HLV Jumbo Jubilee, has completed the loading, transport and discharge of four 700 tons spud cans from Dubai (UAE) to Arendal (Norway). The spud cans were discharged into the water and handed over to two tugboats, which brought them to the quay for further handling by Master Marine ASA. To handle the 700 t spud cans, each with a diameter of 70 ft and a height of 26 ft, Jumbo used a project-specific shackle. Jumbo’s standard onboard lifting gear includes 500 t shackles. The new shackle, weighing 1.5 t, can carry loads up to 1,000 t. After loading and transporting the spud cans from Dubai to Arendal, they were safely discharged one by one in single lifts, with the crew carefully ballasting both the ship and the spud cans.
