Adani Adds Two New Dredgers to Its Fleet
India’s largest private multi-port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) inaugurated two new 8,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) on January 8. Both dredgers were built by Royal IHC in The Netherlands and recently arrived at Adani’s Hazira Port in Gujarat, India, after their maiden voyage through the Suez Canal. The vessels are the 11th and 12th dredgers supplied by Royal IHC to APSEZ and are among the largest in the Indian fleet of TSHDs. “[The new dredgers] will substantially increase our capacity for dredging.
Royal IHC wins multiple contracts for Dredgers
In the last two months of 2016, IHC saw a substantial increase in the sale of its vessels, equipment and engineering packages. Almost half of the total order intake over 2016 was secured in this period. “We see market recovery in the dredging and renewables industry, and are positive that this will continue in 2017,” says IHC CEO Dave Vander Heyde. One of the highlights of the year end includes the sale of a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Easydredge 2700 from stock. Supported by the Argentinean bank BICE, the vessel was sold to Dragados Argentinos DASA S.A. (DASA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. DASA is a new company, established by three leading dredging contractors in the country.
DBL Group Bangladesh Enters Dredging Market
Dhaka-based business conglomerate DBL Group has recently launched its dredging business, DBL Dredging. To support its entry into this new market it ordered two IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredgers (CSDs), and two Delta Multi Craft (DMC) 1050 work boats. The two IHC Beaver 50s were delivered with a spud carrier pontoon, anchor boom installation, production measuring system and dredge track presentation system (DTPS). This will enable DBL to perform an efficient dredging operation.
Kalmar Delivers Cranes to Uniport
Kalmar Industries has delivered two super post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes to Uniport for its Waalhaven Pier 7 facility in the Port of Rotterdam. Initial operations have already seen the cranes achieving impressive handling rates including one four-hour shift where the production rate was 45 containers per crane per hour. The Uniport cranes have been built according to Kalmar’s modular concept: one basic crane design that can be adapted to suit the needs of many different operators. Not only can height and outreach be varied to suit individual terminals’ needs but so can speed, levels of automation and a host of other features.
Kalmar Wins Contract for STS Container Cranes
Kalmar has secured an order for the delivery of a ship-to-shore (STS) container crane for P&O Ports Antwerp. Despite its compact dimensions - 40 metres outreach, 15 metres railspan and 21 metres backreach - in terms of capacity, the crane can be considered a true heavyweight with a lifting capacity of 65 tonnes under the twinlift spreader. Continually increasing volumes at P&O’s existing terminal at the Delwaidedok resulted in the need for an additional crane and possibly one more in the near future. P&O Antwerp handles at present 1.1 million TEU per year at its terminal with 1300 metres of quay, which can accommodate fully loaded vessels of up to 4000TEU. “Seven manufacturers participated in the tender.
