PD Ports Orders New Hopper Dredge from Neptune

PD Ports in the U.K. has ordered a new dredging vessel from Dutch shipbuilder Neptune Marine.The 71-meter-long hopper dredge, which has already been named the Emerald Duchess following a competition among PD Ports employees, was ordered for £23 million and will arrive at Teesport next summer.Currently under construction at a shipyard in Poland for commissioning, ahead of trials in the Netherlands in 2024, the Emerald Duchess will replace the Cleveland County, which had served…

New from Bosch Rexroth are standalone axes with identical servo-drives for actuators with mechanical or hydraulic force transmission, offering new degrees of freedom for machine manufacturers in finding drive solutions that suit specific application requirements. The versions with hydraulic transmission are provided with their own, decentralized fluid circuit. The installation, commissioning and connection to controls and Industry 4.0 environments via a Multi-Ethernet interface or ProfiBus are identical on both variants.

Bets Are off for Stranded Hong Kong Casino Ship and Forlorn Crew

Captain Valerie Lyzhyn and his 45 crew are stranded in Hong Kong, big losers in a gambling slump triggered by a Chinese crackdown on corruption that has scared off the high-rollers. Lyzhyn, 62, a Russian-born Ukrainian and veteran seaman, and his colleagues, refuse to leave their 140 metre (460 foot) casino cruiser the New Imperial Star until they get the six months of pay they say they are owed. Hong Kong's Marine Department has impounded the ship due to what it called "serious deficiencies" found during an inspection. Rations are running low, the ship's owners can't be reached and the cobalt blue felt covering the 16 baccarat tables is gathering dust.

Philippines Bars North Korean Cargo Ship

The Philippine coast guard inspected a North Korean cargo vessel that docked at a port northwest of Manila in one of the first such checks since the U.N. Security Council imposed further sanctions on Pyongyang over its nuclear program, reports AP. The 6,830 dwt general cargo ship Jin Teng is among 31 vessels that could be forced to stop trading after being included in an asset freeze against a North Korean shipping company under the tightened sanctions passed unanimously by the Security Council. The registered owner is Golden Soar Development, which has an address in Hong Kong's Tsim Sha Tsui tourist district, according to the Equasis shipping database hosted by the French transport ministry, although there was no telephone listing for the company.

Custom Ro-Pax Delivered in China

The first Ro-Pax cruiser designed and built in China for the Chinese market has entered into service on January 1, 2015. The ship, named San sha No. 1, can carry wheeled cargo, containers, trailers as well as passengers, and was delivered to China's southernmost city Sansha in Hainan Province to tackle the city's lack of transportation capacity. The vessel is a conventional propulsion Ro-Ro Passenger vessel designed to transport vehicle and containers on a single cargo deck in compliance with Chinese Classification Society Rules and Chinese Flag regulations.

FMC Recovers $503,000 in Penalties

Chairman Mario Cordero announced that the Federal Maritime Commission has completed compromise agreements recovering a total of $503,000 in civil penalties. The agreements were reached with five non-vessel-operating common carriers (NVOCCs), two unlicensed transport businesses and one vessel-operating common carrier. The agreed penalties resulted from investigations conducted by the Commission’s Area Representatives in Miami and Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. headquarters staff.

Iconic Star Ferry in Move to New Wan Chai Pier

With effect from the first departure on Saturday 30 August 2014, Hong Kong's “Wan Chai – Tsim Sha Tsui” ferry service will operate from the new Wan Chai Ferry Pier. The existing Wan Chai (East) ferry Pier will be closed simultaneously, informs the Star Ferry Company. The Star Ferry's ferry crossings at Victoria Harbour are acclaimed as an important part of the commuter system between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, and essential journeys for visitors. China Merchants Shipping Approved to Buy Six Oil Tankers

China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. Ltd. (SHA 601872) said orders for six oil tankers have been approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). In April, the company said it plans to buy two very large crude carriers (VLCC) displacing 300,000 deadweight tons and two tankers displacing 110,000 dwt from Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. for $343m. In June, the company signed a $232m order with Dalian Shipbuilding to buy two VLCCs displacing 300,000 deadweight tons. New World First Ferry Orders Two Ferries

Austal and New World First Ferry Services (Macau) Limited (First Ferry (Macau)) ordered two new high-speed catamarans for operation between Macau and Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. With five Austal 155.8-ft. high speed passenger catamarans already in service, the new ferries will be almost identical to the original design. The ferries are said to be optimized for service speeds in excess of 42 knots and the comfortable carriage of 418 passengers with numerous passenger amenities. The new ferries are scheduled to enter service in 2008 to meet the growing tourism demand generated from the remarkable increase in the Macau's tourist arrivals since the development of the gaming and mega-resort industry and the extension of Individual Visitor Scheme.
