ABS to Class FPSO Pair Being Built for Petrobras Buzios Field

The American Bureau of Shipping said Thursday that an FPSO duo being built for Brazil's Petrobras would be constructed to ABS Class.The sister FPSOs are currently named P-78 and P-79 and will be deployed at the giant Buzios pre-salt offshore oil field in Brazil's Santos Basin.ABS said that the fact the FPSO duo would be built to its Class demonstrated ABS’ continued leadership in the industry, with ABS Class accounting for 60% of all FPSOs in service. Singapore-based Keppel Offshore and Marine subsidiaries have been slapped with a request for arbitration from an unnamed counterparty in relation to contracts for the delivery of Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessels.Keppel said this week that the unnamed claimant had withheld $11.3 million due to Keppel's subsidiaries under the FPSO engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.Furthermore, the claimant is seeking payment from Keppel of around $31.2 million…

Temasek Bids $3 Bln for Control of Keppel

Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings is offering to buy control of conglomerate Keppel Corp in a S$4.1 billion ($3 billion) deal that could hasten a consolidation in the rig building sector which is battling the effects of low oil prices.The announcement, which confirmed what two sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters earlier on Monday, boosted shares in rig builder Sembcorp Marine by 12% on expectations of a likely shake-up in the industry. Keppel O&M to Pay US$422m to Resolve Petrobras Issue

Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel Corporation or Keppel) today confirmed that KOM has reached a global resolution with criminal authorities in the United States, Brazil and Singapore in relation to corrupt payments made by KOM's former agent in Brazil,  Zwi Skornicki. As part of the global resolution, KOM has accepted a conditional warning from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) in Singapore, and entered into a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), while Keppel FELS Brasil, a wholly-owned subsidiary of KOM, has reached a Leniency Agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Brazil, the Ministério Público Federal (MPF).

Project to Address Marine Bio-invasions Concludes

A decade-long project to promote implementation of an international treaty stemming the transfer of potentially invasive species in ships’ ballast water has reached a successful conclusion at a meeting of stakeholders from Governments, industry and UN bodies. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been executing the GloBallast Partnerships Program in collaboration with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project was launched in 2007 after an initial 4-year phase and has been assisting developing countries to reduce the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens in ships’ ballast water and implement the IMO Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention.

Shipyard Cranes Order for Konecranes

Konecranes has received an order for cranes for a shipyard being built in Baku, Azerbaijan. The order was placed by Baku Shipyard, a joint venture company formed by State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Keppel Offshore and Marine (KOM), and Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC). The order comprises one Goliath gantry crane and two portal jib cranes. The cranes will be delivered to the Baku shipyard by 2013. Baku Shipyard will develop a yard that is expected to be ready by the end of 2013.

Keppel Corp. Year End Results for 2010

The Directors of Keppel Corporation Limited advise the following unaudited results of the Group for the full year ended 31 December 2010. The FY 2010 Report Card and the Address by Mr Choo Chiau Beng, Chief Executive Officer, are below. The full set of financial documents for the results and the Address by Mr Teo Soon Hoe, Senior Executive Director and Group Finance Director, are attached and also available for download below. 1. Net profit before exceptional items improved 12% to S$1,419 million, compared to FY 2009's S$1,265 million. 2. Earnings Per Share of 88.7 cents, up 12% from FY 2009's 79.4 cents. 3. ROE remained above 20%. 4. Economic Value Added before exceptional items increased from S$1,026 million to S$1,035 million.

Keppel Terminates MPU Heavy Lifter Project

Further to the announcement on 1 July 2008, Keppel Verolme BV, a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore and Marine Limited, has decided, after evaluating all possible options, to terminate the MPU Heavy Lifter project and commence the scrapping process of the concrete hull. Keppel Verolme has secured the necessary rights and endorsements from third parties to dismantle and dispose of the concrete hull which has no commercial value. This will release the drydock and other valuable resources for Keppel Verolme. Dismantling works on the unit is expected to commence in January 2009 and will be completed in about three months. Keppel Gets $105.7m in Contracts for Conversion, Shipbuilding

Keppel Offshore and Marine, a unit of Keppel Corp, has secured conversion and shipbuilding contracts worth $105.7m. The contracts involve converting two Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units. One contract is from SBM Holdings, one of the world's largest owners and operators of FPSO and FSO facilities, and the other is from Emas Offshore Construction and Production. The unit for SBM is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2008. When completed, it can produce up to 100,000 barrels of oil per day and store about 1.6 million barrels of oil. The unit for Emas Offshore Construction and Production is due to be ready by mid-2008. Meanwhile, Keppel Nantong Shipyard has received an order to build three 65-ton bollard pull tugboats.

Keppel to Make its Mark in Qatar

Keppel FELS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Offshore and Marine Ltd, will deliver its first Jack Up Drilling Rig ahead of schedule by the end of this year to Qatar's national drilling company, the Gulf Drilling International (GDI), the company's officials announced in Singapore recently. Built to Keppel's proprietary KFELS B Class design, the first rig has been named Al Khor, after one of Qatar's historical cities which has contributed to the development of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the country in recent years. The second rig will be delivered in end 2007. Al Khor has been built to GDI's specifications for operations in water depths of up to 300 feet and drilling depth of down to 30,000 feet.

Keppel to Develop Qatar Shipyard

Keppel Offshore and Marine has signed an agreement with Qatar Gas Transport Company to jointly develop and manage a major new facility in the Port of Ras Laffan in Qatar. The agreement covers the construction, repair and maintenance of ships and other marine structures. The new facility will be suitable for the repair and maintenance of very large LNG carriers and a wide range of other vessels. The shipyard will be able to build specialised small ships, such as offshore supply vessels. Completion of the first phase of the yard is scheduled for the last quarter of 2009. Keppel Offshore and Marine Units Win Contracts

Keppel Corporation Limited, through its offshore and marine units in Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), has clinched contracts worth a total of $41 million from repeat customers. Three contracts over $28 million are for the upgrades of jack-up rig Ensco 81 and barge drilling unit Ensco 1 from Ensco Offshore Company (ENSCO), and swamp barge Maera from PT Apexindo Pratama Duta, an Indonesian drilling contractor. Another contract is for a new Anchor Handling Tug/Supply (AHTS) vessel for Pacific Richfield Marine Pte Ltd, owner and operator of offshore support vessels in the Asia and Pacific region. Keppel Singmarine Completes Tugs

Keppel Singmarine, a member of Keppel Offshore and Marine, has completed four tugs for Keppel Smit Towage (KST). Two tugs, KST Sculptor and KST Scorpius were delivered earlier and the remaining two, KST Spica and KST Sirius were delivered on September 19. Upon delivery, these tugs will boost KST’s fleet strength from 24 to 28 tugs. The vessels, with bollard pull of 48 tons, meet the requirements of assisting the berthing and unberthing of Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) at two fixed jetties located at the Sinki Fairway, off the western sector of Singapore. Sister vessels, KST Sculptor and KST Scorpius, have a gross tonnage of 246 GT, while KST Spica and KST Sirus are 257 GT. All four tugs are equipped with fire-fighting systems, with a pumping capacity of 1,200 cubic meters per hour.
